competition, and 29-year-old writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber aced Steven Spielberg by a score of $30 to $18.7 in US box-office millions. That's no mean feat for a newcomer, but Thurber's lowbrow script and rapid-fire direction--along with a sublime cast of screen comedians--proved to be just what moviegoers were ravenous for: a consistently hilarious, patently formulaic romp in which the underdog owner of Average Joe's Gym (Vince Vaughan) faces foreclosure unless he can raise $50,000 in 30 days. The solution: A dodgeball tournament offering $50K to the winners, in which Vaughan and his nerdy clientele teamup against the preening, abhorrently narcissistic owner (Ben Stiller) of Globo Gym, who's threatening a buy-out. That's it for story; any 5-year-old could follow it with brainpower to spare. But Thurber, Vaughan, Stiller, and their well-cast costars (including Stiller's off-screen wife, Christine Taylor) keep the big laughs coming for 96 nonsensical minutes. With spot-on cameos by champion bicyclist Lance Armstrong, David Hasselhoff, Hank Azaria, Chuck Norris, and William Shatner, and a crudely amusing coda for those who watch past the credits,Dodgeballis no masterpiece, but you can bet Spielberg was unexpectedly humbled by its popular appeal.--Jeff Shannon

Advantages: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn Disadvantages: Very average and similar to many modern comedies
...is to win the national DodgeBall tournament, but with only his misfit employees and patrons to make up the numbers, things don’t look good. Especially when White Goodman (Ben Stiller) the egomaniacal owner of Globo gym, decides to enter his own team of highly tuned sportsmen into the same competition in the hope of stopping La Fleur in his tracks.
►►► Opinion
To be totally honest, I really did not find “DodgeBall” that funny, ... ...decide to enter into the DodgeBall competition, despite a distinct lack of experience. So straight away you know the film is going to try and entertain through using preposterous premises to make you laugh, which sadly don’t always hit the mark. So much more could have been done with the plot to make it more substantial and funny, but the writers behind the film have spent more time trying to make us laugh with lack lustre jokes than give us a decent ...

...that there will be a dodgeball competition held in Los Vegas where the winners get $50,000. None of them have ever played dodgeball before, and in order to compete in Los Angeles they have to beat a girl scout team which they do, eventually.
It turns out that White has been spying on the Average Joe's and he discovers what they are up to, so he decides to join the competition himself with the best players he can find. The Average Joe's find a coach, ... ...Opinion •-)•––––
I thought Dodgeball was a good film, not one of my favourites, but still it was enjoyable. I liked the crazy characters in it, such as White and Steve the Pirate. White was bizarre, he wore the most ridiculous outfits that you could think of and was vainer than ever, and Steve the Pirate literally thought that he was a pirate even going as far as dressing and talking like one. The best bits were when Average Joe's were playing dodgeball, ...

Advantages: Funny as hell Disadvantages: A little slow
...This is movie is a great movie.A great comedy! It has a great story line. Average joes is facing being closed so one of the members comes up with the idea to enter a dodge ball competiton to make the money they need. They will only get the money if they win, they all go with the idea but the rival gym globogym also enter. Both teams get to the final. There is a great twist in the end even though it is slightly confussing. This a great movie one you can watch with all the family i would definatly invest in this movie. This would also be the perfect present for somebody who is a big ben stiller fan!...

Advantages: Brilliantly Funny Throughout Disadvantages: Has references to bisexuals which can confuse youngsters
...A brilliantly funny film, excellent family film, a good watch on a Sunday with the family or any day of the week really.
This is one of Vince Vaughn's first lead roles and he excels in the role and with the ever fabulous Ben Stiller the film is bound to be a hit and it truly is.
Sports films are sometimes difficult to pull off but this is done very well, especially with a film about Dodgeball, a game that is more commonly played in America rather than England. But the film works and is funny throughout.
Patches O'Houlihan (Rip Torn) is perfectly casted and is funny in every scene he is in.
At only £3 (around the same price as renting it out) Dodgeball is an absolute bargin as you can then watch the film again and again, which you will!...

DVD Description
In DODGEBALL - A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn team up once again (following STARSKY AND HUTCH) for another comic romp. While hilariously satirizing modern-day gym culture, the film also celebrates a sport that has previously been relegated to the elementary school playground. Peter La Fleur (Vaughn) owns the decrepit Average Joe's gym, which has been losing its clients ever since the glitzy Globo Gym opened up across the street. White Goodman (Stiller), Globo Gym's main spokesman, is a preposterously vain egomaniac on the cusp of taking over La Fleur's failing business. La Fleur learns from a beautiful attorney (Christine Taylor) that if he doesn't come up with $50,000 in 30 days, his career running a gym will be over. Potential salvation arrives in the form of a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament, but conquering a sport one hasn't played in several decades isn't such an easy feat. Fortunately for Peter, he finds a coach for his team: the hardheaded, ex-superstar Patches O'Houlihan (Rip Torn). As Peter and his ragtag team make their way to the championship in Las Vegas, they must contend with White, who has assembled a team of his very own. Rawson Marshall Thurber's debut feature is a highly assured work, which features hilarious cameos from Chuck Norris, Lance Armstrong, David Hasselhoff, and William Shatner.
