The Most Concise World War 2 Documentary ever
Review of The World At War (Box Set) by ak481

Advantages: Many Key Witnesses Available for commentary
Disadvantages: Very few stock images in colour.

The World at War Series is refreshingly unique, with the strong powerful voice of Laurence Olivier as Narrator, it offers an insight into both sides of the war, and best of all, alot of the key witnesses or participants of major events were still alive at the time of this documentary so a phenominal amount of commentary was available making this one of the most coverted History sets ever. It even goes onto describe the end of the War in Germany, ... Read review

Review of Seven Wonders Of Ancient Rome - Circus Maximus And Trajan's Forum DVD by zzooiiaa

Advantages: Discovery Channel production
Disadvantages: a bit too short

...methods used to create the seven wonders of ancient Rome- the Pantheon, the aqueducts, the Via Appia, the baths of Caracalla, the markets of Trajan, the Circus Maximus and the Colosseum. It is really interesting especially for people who have had the chance to see these sights, it puts things into perspective. I was amazed when I visited the Colosseum and had some many questions about the way it was build around 2000years ago (89 AD) and that DVD ...
...uses superb CG graphics and 3D modelling to recreate brilliantly the key structures and architectual devices that made the Roman Empire famous. The DVD can be purchased in pretty much every big store- Virgin, HMV etc. Online it can be bought from all the usual places- amazon, ebay and also it can be rented at amazon.co.uk DVD rental. The only drawback is the lack of any interesting features. It is a Discovery Channel productions and runs for 53minutes. ... Read review

All Creatures Great and Small!
Review of The Life Of Mammals Complete by ivytoad

Advantages: Beautiful footage, educational, interesting
Disadvantages: I want more episodes!!

...our favourite documentaries came from the life of mammals series, so I decided to buy my boyfriend the complete 'The Life of Mammals' box set for his birthday. The box set itself comes in a cardboard sleeve, and the inside of the box set containing the dvds unfolds so that you can see all of the dvds at the same time. The front cover of the box set has a picture of a tiger on the front of it surrounded by some water and in big letters at the top ...
...bottom 'David Attenborough' The dvd box set contains 4 dvds with a total of 10 episodes on them. The episodes are: Episode 1: A Winning Design - Tells us about mammals in general and what makes them different from other species and how they survived. Episode 2: Insect Hunters - All about mammals who eat insects! Episode 3: Plant Predators - This episode tells us about herbivore mammals. Episode 4: Chisellers - About mammals who make use of ... END THE X FACTOR
Review of The X Factor - Revealed DVD by thegreengoblin

Advantages: NONE
Disadvantages: PLENTY

...but its time to pull the plug on the whole X Factor show. Its now become a joke with this years audition programmes being boring. The actual selecting of the chosen few to go from boot camp to the live shows proving to be a farce with two new bands being chosen made out of the reject young men and women. The first of the live shows last weekend proving that the 12 acts on offer are rubbish and Xmas came early with the usual panto hysterics of Sharon. ...
...real talent on offer from the star and I certainly would of enjoyed listening to the radio and watching television the past couple of years without Brookstein,G4, Shaney and Leona. Also I may be a traditionalist but I like my Xmas number 1 to be a xmas song not a reality star winners so called single which always gives me more indigestion than stuffing my face with turkey. To make matters worse we find out now over the years of X Factor many peoples ... Read review

World War Two in Colour, Face to Face
Review of World War II In Colour - Face To Face DVD by Martinscholes

Advantages: Well put together programme
Disadvantages: Featured only American troops

World War Two In Colour Face to Face is a truly remarkable documentary film. It consists of rare colour film footage, shot during the evil and desperate days that made up the Second World War. The film was, in the main, all shot by film cameramen who were military personnel. Who genuinely braved the same hardships and difficulties that beset their military colleagues, compatriots and fellow combatants. As the commentary on the DVD points out, the ...
...in six men who, during World War Two, did experience the hell and horror of the Second World War. But whose efforts and heroic deeds and ordinary acts were recorded. But not in Black and White. But in colour. There are also the voices of the War Correspondents. Not civilian journalists "embedded" (a strange choice of words) in a unit. No, these correspondents were military personnel. The first correspondent's voice heard on the programme is that ... Read review
