Life In The Freezer - David Attenborough
Review of Life In The Freezer DVD by ivytoad

Advantages: So interesting, fun to watch, educational
Disadvantages: I want more episodes!!

I really love 'The Life Collection' from David Attenborough. The complete series of 'Life in the Freezer' was the third dvd of the collection that I bought. The series itself has six episodes which are all on one disc. They were originally transmitted in 1993. The six episodes are: Episode 1: The Bountiful Sea - All about the Southern Antarctic Ocean and the species in it Episode 2: The Ice Retreats - About when Spring comes and the wildlife ...
...the extreme conditions and how life continues, against all the odds. Episode 6: Footsteps In The Snow - The first man to stand in the South Pole and the struggle to get there. The dvd has a total running time of 174 minutes and each episode is around 30 minutes long. There are no special features on this dvd apart from the option of 'scene selection', this is quite a common feature on dvds these days, and nothing that special but it is nice and ... Read review

All Creatures Great and Small!
Review of The Life Of Mammals Complete by ivytoad

Advantages: Beautiful footage, educational, interesting
Disadvantages: I want more episodes!!

...our favourite documentaries came from the life of mammals series, so I decided to buy my boyfriend the complete 'The Life of Mammals' box set for his birthday. The box set itself comes in a cardboard sleeve, and the inside of the box set containing the dvds unfolds so that you can see all of the dvds at the same time. The front cover of the box set has a picture of a tiger on the front of it surrounded by some water and in big letters at the top ...
...bottom 'David Attenborough' The dvd box set contains 4 dvds with a total of 10 episodes on them. The episodes are: Episode 1: A Winning Design - Tells us about mammals in general and what makes them different from other species and how they survived. Episode 2: Insect Hunters - All about mammals who eat insects! Episode 3: Plant Predators - This episode tells us about herbivore mammals. Episode 4: Chisellers - About mammals who make use of ... Great family documentary
Review of Planet Earth DVD by Moshulu123

Advantages: Informative and entertaining
Disadvantages: none

My husband saw a couple of these programs a while ago and did nothing but rave about them. So when I saw the box set in Virgin for £10.99 I had to buy it to see what all the hype was about. I have to admit since starting to watch it, conversation has come to a grinding halt in our house due to the fact that I am glued to it. The set comes with 4 discs, each containing 3 x 45 minute long programs narrated by David Attenborough on different subjects ...
...Deserts to Jungles, etc. At the end of each program is a 10 minute "Diary" showing how they made the program and what the camera crew had to endure to get the filming. This is very funny to watch and almost worth buying the dvd for on its own. Its amazing to think that the 45 minutes of footage you have just seen can take up to a year in extreme conditions filming. There are no very gory bits in it, so it's fine for young children to watch, and doesn't ... Read review

Review of Planet Earth DVD by Sophie-Kaia

Advantages: excellent footage/bonus material/educational
Disadvantages: can't think of any

...comprises of all of the Planet Earth episodes shown on BBC1 as well as a bonus -Planet Earth - the future. This bonus dvd accompanies the book of the same name and looks at saving species and asks the question do we face an extinction crisis. We also learn about how we can save certain species. xx--Bonus content--xx This bonus disk also looks at pollutiion, climate change and the growing human population -- all of which are putting pressure on ...
...living together-the challenges facing the planet and living together in such remote areas in the 21st century. This bonus disk asks and attempts to answer a lot of question about our planet in crisis and is a very interesting and inspiring watch. I really enjoyed learning about ways in which I could help, and after watching the stunning footage filmed of our planet, you can not help but ask the question "how can I help" -this disk really tries to ...
