2 Men, 4 Wheels, 20,000 Miles
Advantages: We get to see some fantastic places Disadvantages: Some people may not like the perspective given by Ewan and Charley
...conducted by Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor. Since completing this one, which took them round the world they have done another one taking them around the world the other way ‘A Long Way Down’. I personally only really saw the end of this series and then the whole of the Long Way Down series when they were on the television but really enjoyed what I saw. For this reason I decided to purchase this DVD so that I could see the whole story. This DVD ... ...of this both Charley and Ewan immediately warm to Claudio and therefore the filming process is much more relaxed and realistic. What is also nice to watch unfold and progress are Ewan and Claudio’s riding skills as neither had previously ridden in dirt terrain. What I found most interesting about the series as a whole was the fact that the boys don’t withhold anything from the audience and really do tell you exactly what they think of what they see, ...

An amazing truth filled story of a doomed journey.
Advantages: Truthful. Excellent acting. Empathetic. Disadvantages: You have to be old enough to appreciate it. Over 12's I would say.
...spacecraft to the moons' surface; Apollo 13. It shows the trials of both those on board Apollo 13 and mission control during the routine flight - turned disaster. The fight is then on by both parties to save those on board and return them safely to earth. Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Greg Sinise, Kevin Bacon and Ed Harris all play central roles. Tom Hanks being the main character, as Jim Lovell. The characters were played with such respect to the truth ... ...went through this. There are few changes to the actual truth, very small of course; for instance the launchpad was incorrectly positioned, the phases of earth from windows on the spacecraft, car colours, hair styles etc. Dramatic license was not taken so blatently as it is in many other factual movies. Ron Howard has been known to state that this is his favourite film that he has directed. We can see that this can be true as the direction is impeccable ...

Survival of the fittest
Advantages: Its Ray Mears! Top bloke Disadvantages: Maybe too many stories told
Ray Mearss' television programmes have always interested me. His knowledge of survival in some of the harshest enviroments arould the world is amazing. watching him set up traps for animals, starting fires from nothing, making canoes, foraging for food an creating mouthwatering meals from the bush is amazing to see. Its great to see his passion to help to keep these old skills alive in a world where we seem to care less and less about where things ... ...of the 3rd series of his and is great to watch. Could well make you want to pack up and move into some local woods though! I would prefer more emphasis on skills of survival rather than stories of people who have managed to get by in these harsh places but other than that - its great. A lot to watch and so if you like this sort of thing - great value for money ...

The trip of a lifetime, for viewers as well as Ewan and Charley
Advantages: Engaging, funny, emotional, exciting, educational Disadvantages: I want even more footage!!!
...the epic adventure undertaken by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman in 2004 to travel from London to New York...the long way, through Europe to Far East Russia, and then across to Canada and the USA. It first aired on Sky One, and it was there that I watched it for the first time. I've been a fan of Ewan McGregor for a long time (interesting fact - he went to school with my cousin) and when I saw the adverts the show was promoted more about motorbikes ... ...the next one! Ewan and Charley were long time friends, and once Ewan came up with this mad idea, they brought in other friends and acquaintances to help make it happen. They included their producers David Alexanian and Russ Malkin, cameramen Jim Simak and Claudio Von Planta, and numerous other based in their office in London and around the world to help them with visas, language and local customs. The route took in the UK, Belgium, Germany, Czech ...
