What's Wrong With McDonalds?
Advantages: Fascinating, educational, eye-opener, thought-provoking, makes you think about what you eat Disadvantages: None, I just wish I'd seen it sooner.
...same director, Franny Armstrong. McLibel is about David Morris and Helen Steel who, as part of London Greenpeace, distributed leaflets (though never wrote them) about McDonalds entitled 'What's Wrong With McDonalds?' in 1986, and were later taken to court by McDonalds for libel. The trial lasted for two and a half years, and remains the longest ever trial in English legal history. The leaflet referred to a range of issues, including claims of animal ... ...to see two documentaries this year, I should absolutely make the first 'McLibel', and the second 'The Age of Stupid' - which is also an incredibly important film to watch, and goes on general release on March 20th!) September 11
Advantages: good film Disadvantages: where do i start?
The arrogance of filmmakers can be staggering sometimes. As the world recoiled from the world?s worst peacetime atrocity, 11 filmmakers were given $400,000o make a short film that lasted 11 minutes, nine seconds and one frame ? and to be honest, the money would be better going to charity. Without Ken Loach?s superb, standout entry, this is self-indulgent tripe.
Using the events of another Tuesday September 11 ? this one in 1973, when the CIA helped ... ...begin his reign of terror ? Loach offers a stunning indictment of America?s double standards. The rest of this compendium, though, varies from the vaguely interesting (Nair), to the pointless (Imamura). And then there?s the plain terrible (Chahine). But this pales next to Sean Penn?s boring folly, the pretentious story of a man living in the shadow of the twin towers, complete with dripping taps and billowing curtains. No words can describe 9/ll. ...

Great documentary about this influencial album.
Advantages: In depth look at the album. Extra material for DVD. Disadvantages: Not long enough!
Part of the superb TV series "Classic Albums" this DVD focuses on the album Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols by The Sex Pistols. Extended interviews and features are included for this DVD, not shown in the TV broadcast.
This DVD is divided into distinct sections, these being -The Introductory section - Analysis of tracks - Bonus Interviews and Features.
All the menus (root and extras) are of a high standard, easy to use and fun to ... ...music journalists (from Rolling Stone and Sounds magazines) discuss the initial impact of the group and of the NMTB album itself. All agreeing that it had a powerful sound and that the band were much better musicians than sometimes given credit for. You then see all the band members (John Lydon (A.K.A. Johnny Rotten of course) - Vocals, Steve Jones - Guitar, Glen Matlock - Bass and Paul Cook - Drums), plus manager Malcolm McLaren and graphic artist ...

Fascinating and Enlightening Documentary
Advantages: Can be seen by young and old Disadvantages: Some parts are glanced over (historical events)
...and actions in regards to the Vietnam War, and the people that were responsible for the war. It was great to listen to people reliving the time of the late sixites and early seventies, and you cannot help but notice the similarities of the "corrupt" government back then to this government now (who started the Iraq war). The clips of John and Yoko were fascinating, for me, I got to respect Yoko much more - she was a woman clearly in love with John ... ...his evolution of thoughts from the Beatle's days right up to his full participation in the anti-war movement.
I found it a very inspiring film, and would urge everyone to watch it. Back then, people seemed less afraid to stand up and protest for their beliefs (with the mass rallies, great protest songs, the rise of public speakers). Who knows, maybe this documentary film might inspire more people to think about the rights and wrongs of how their ...

Elite Documentary about an Elite unit.
Advantages: makes you think, can be motivating Disadvantages: none
...faced bunch of Royal Marine Commando recruits all the way through 32 weeks of basic training. With complete access to every part of the training process he follows the good times and the bad of each of the recruits and something that I felt made the documentary that little more exciting was that he also took part in the training himself, Chris Terrill was 55 years old. The Program was originally aired in 2007 for ITV; at the beginning you see the ... ...of becoming a Royal Marine Commando and receiving the coveted Green Beret so that they can become elite soldiers that look a million miles away from the guys that they were 32 weeks earlier. After the 32 weeks training Chris follows a few of the successful soldiers when they are posted to Afghanistan for a tour of duty, as well as a new officer who takes up his post in Afghanistan for his first tour with a mainly rookie company of men. I managed ...
