Advantages: LOTRs history all in one place Disadvantages: Nothing Special
Why did I rent this DVD? Simply for my growing interest in Dominic Monaghan; Merry in the LOTR's films and theses days known as "Charlie" in the hit LOST. OK so I'm shallow but who hasn't been tempted by a film or a TV show based solely on its casting credits!? Advantages: Wonderful, diverse, interesting characters - a great plot, plenty of dramatic suspense. Disadvantages: Will make you feel grossly unintelligent. Overbearing soundtrack and dubious editing in the final scene.
In case you were wondering, this isn’t the 1945 Hitchcock thriller of the same name (even though my local art house mistakenly printed the description of Hitchcock’s film in their brochure) - this is a documentary about an unfathomable American obsession, no, not guns, the other one, yes.. spelling. Every year thousands of American school children compete in local, regional and state spelling ‘bees’ with the dream of reaching the coveted ‘National ... ...children as they study, stutter and spell their way to Washington DC to join 241 other nerdish hopefuls in a battle of words and wits of implausibly epic proportions. Sounds interesting huh?.. Amazingly this documentary manages to create levels of tension and intense drama which Hitchcock himself would have been proud of and which puts a plethora of mainstream summer blockbusters to shame. With simple, unobtrusive filming, debut director Jeffrey ...
