Dambusters
Review of The Dambusters DVD by blissman70

Advantages: great entertaining movie
Disadvantages: a possible American remake

...hour war time movie depicts the true story of how one mans idea became embedded in history to be remembered for ever… ** BRIEF PLOT ** During World war two (1943) Doctor Barnes Wallis, (played by Michael Redgrave) is attempting to build a special type of bomb which he hopes can be used to destroy certain German dams… knowing that dropping normal bombs on the dams will have little effect he comes up with the idea of a bouncing bomb…but this bomb ...
...must overcome many problems surrounding the bomb, firstly persuading a certain Sir Arthur Harris, (played by Basil Sydney) that his idea will work, after being refused funding my the MOD, then perfecting the large globe so that it can be used as it should be… So whilst Wallis perfects his creation it is up to Harris to find some of the finest pilot to recruit into his newly formed team, calling it 617 Squadron, led by Wing commander Guy Gibson, (played ... Disadvantages: there isnt enough

...family, now this family is the family that you would love to be well what i would love to be in. They have no worries or fears they are just too cool. so obviously i absolutly loved this series to bits. On the other hand if you hate swearing and rock then you do not want to buy this dvd on any note. There is no beeps if you know what i mean and no script. so as you can tell it is not something you would let your 9 year old daughter watch ( or your ... Read review

The Fatal Grandeur Of The Golden Gate Bridge
Review of The Bridge DVD by iGayParis

Advantages: Deeply moving, Fascinating, Gripping, Shocking, Compelling, Brutally Honest...
Disadvantages: Not For Everyone...

♥ The Bridge ♥ ''In the USA today, suicide is far more common than homicide, with someone taking their own life every eighteen minutes.'' Inspired by an article in The New Yorker about the Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco) being the most popular suicide magnet in the world comes 'The Bridge'. The article was read by the Director himself, Eric Steel, one morning and he was unable to stop thinking about it; thinking about what must ...
...lot to some spot in the middle and jumped off in broad daylight. He quickly became fascinated with the whole thing and flew out to San Francisco where he tried to find locations from which to film the bridge, learned how to use cameras, obtained crew and permits and then began filming. The crew filmed for a whole year and caught on film a total of 23 of the 24 people who jumped to their deaths in 2004. ♥ The Documentary ♥ Okay, well ... Read review

Bob Dylan - No Direction Home - Film Only
Review of No Direction Home: Bob Dylan DVD by DavidJay

Advantages: Masterfully edited, full of astounding footage both familiar and otherwise...a classic.
Disadvantages: None.

...rarely-seen footage and interview material, No Direction Home is, for the first half at least, as much about America in the pause-for-breath moment between the beat writers of the 1950s and the counter-culture student movements of the mid-to-late 1960s as it is about the life and work of Robert Zimmerman. It is - clichéd as it sounds - a sweeping, engrossing portrait of a time and of a place, scouring the terrain leads from the rattle-tattle zap-pow ...
...of Odetta's acoustic guitar, from the wandering shoes of Neil Cassidy to those of Woody Guthrie. Dylan features heavily throughout this section of the film, of course, but he is very much a character-in-the-making. When he does take centre-stage in time for the second half (the film is, incidentally, almost four hours long), it is via some of the most compelling footage available, some of it assumed lost or destroyed. A talking heads documentary ... Read review

The Killing Of America
Review of Killing Of America DVD by DavidJay

Advantages: Uncompromising, thought-provoking meld of exploitation and propaganda.
Disadvantages: Morally disturbing, apparently uncertain of its audience at times.

...Executions. Like the latter, The Killing Of America parades its grotesqueries (sundry assassinations, beatings, slaughters...) in the service of a core political message - a message which, in this instance, is almost as disturbing as the carnage onscreen. The film almost seems to call for vigilante justice, and a reactionary, right-wing tone informs most every scene. It is, however, a fascinating picture in its own right, a strange, curious meld ...
