Wildlife on Mull
Advantages: Fascinating insight into one of the wildest parts of the British Isles Disadvantages: Too short
My family have always had an interest in the Western Isles of Scotland; as a child, I spent all of my holidays on islands such as the Uists, Eigg, Coll, Tiree, Islay and Jura. I never got the chance to go to Mull - at the time, it was not particularly popular as a tourist destination and the birds that attracted my dad to the islands could be found elsewhere. Over 20 years later, Mull has a thriving tourist industry, both because of its wildlife ... ...coloured houses actually exist in Mull's main town, Tobermory. I still haven't had the chance to go myself, although I hope to later this year and when my dad was given this DVD for Christmas, I knew I'd enjoy it. Colin Buchanan, who presents this DVD, was raised on the Isle of Mull until the age of 17, when he left the island to take on a career as a wildlife photographer, a job that led him all over the world. After 15 years, he returns to the ...

This wildlife special from the BBC finds its home in the idyllic setting of the Karha National Park in India, where the film focusses on the trials of a 12 year old tigress named Lakshmi. The cameras record the tribulations ... ...as is possible in this wildlife special.
From the burnt yellows, oranges and blacks of an indian sunrise through the full gamit of greens and browns of the lush tropical forest, Houseman's camera work reveals the full palette of a paradise where the tiger's own magnificence is perfectly in key. There is barely a single shot in this documentary that is not exquisitely framed, yet this is not artistic license as each individual visual is part of a ...

"Sicko" (2007) - FILM ONLY REVIEW Writer: Michael Moore Director: Michael Moore Running Time: 123 minutes Certificate: 12A (UK) / PG (Ireland) / PG13 (USA) It has become something of a cliché to describe Michael Moore as a controversial, polarising character. To some, he is the White Knight of the left whose regular-guy approach to discussing uncomfortable subjects should be applauded, while to others he is a man who has exploited vulnerable interview ... ...picture he wants to make his attention-grabbing documentaries a success. An entire industry has grown up attempting to discredit Moore's work and has given his reputation something of a battering over recent years, but while some of the criticism he has received has I think been justified, this has not prevented him producing his highly entertaining 2007 documentary "Sicko" about the American medical industry. In many ways, this has proved to be ...

[Film Only Review] A few weeks ago I wrote about the amazing biography by Brad Cohen, how he overcame the stigma of Tourette syndrome* (TS from herein) and became a teacher and motivational speaker. Today I want to talk about the movie that actually first introduced me to Brad Cohen, who is not just a character in a movie but a real person. Brad Cohen developed TS in early childhood and was stigmatised by most of his peers, as well as some family, ... ...fulfil his ultimate dream, to become a teacher, the teacher he never had when he was at school. *Tourette syndrome (also called Tourette's syndrome, Tourette's disorder, Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, GTS or, more commonly, simply Tourette's or TS) is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by the presence of multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic; these tics characteristically ...
