School's in for Rocking!
Advantages: Paul Green, the kids, the music, the direction, everything! Disadvantages: Not much, maybe the music if you really hate Zappa
...man. He runs his own Rock School in Philadelphia where he imparts his musical wisdom to a number of 9-16 year olds, and whatever you think of his methods they certainly seem to work. Rock School the documentary (surely School of Rock must have been based on Green and his school?) follows Green around as he prepares his kids for a couple of shows. A Black Sabbath tribute one for his new and less accomplished students and a performance at a Zappa convention ... ...is as good as most rock guitarists will ever be, how a kid that age can be so good I just do not know but when you see him, almost hidden by his guitar, you just sit there open mouthed at his ability to play.
Then there is Madi, a bright, good looking young girl who wants to be a Sheryl Crow like performer and is always arguing with Green (in fact she is the one student who not only stands their ground with him but gives him as good as she gets ...

An Audience With Tony Benn DVD
Advantages: Improved sound and picture Disadvantages: Hard to find release
Love him or loathe him, Tony Benn is one of the most distinguished and consistent members of state to represent humanitarian and old labour issues in the UK. One would expect him to be rallying support for fox hunting with his authoritative Etonian grandfather voice and clenched fist. However, in traditional street speaker style, Tony Benn explores current national and international politics with insightful digressions into history he himself participated ... ...logic and common sense in Tony Benn's convictions. Any one even with a slight interest in politics, human rights, current affairs or alternative opinions will find this gripping and will find it hard to resist Tony Benn's humour, charisma and didactic passion.
Witty, recondite and bursting with enthusiasm, Tony Benn shares his deconstructive explorations on current affairs issues such as fox hunting, nuclear weapons, public sector pay to the future ...

In Sickness and in Health
Advantages: Interesting and entertaining, Great interview with Tony Benn Disadvantages: Some subjects are arguably exploited, Does not consider disadvantages of socialised healthcare
"Sicko" (2007) - FILM ONLY REVIEW Writer: Michael Moore Director: Michael Moore Running Time: 123 minutes Certificate: 12A (UK) / PG (Ireland) / PG13 (USA) It has become something of a cliché to describe Michael Moore as a controversial, polarising character. To some, he is the White Knight of the left whose regular-guy approach to discussing uncomfortable subjects should be applauded, while to others he is a man who has exploited vulnerable interview ... ...picture he wants to make his attention-grabbing documentaries a success. An entire industry has grown up attempting to discredit Moore's work and has given his reputation something of a battering over recent years, but while some of the criticism he has received has I think been justified, this has not prevented him producing his highly entertaining 2007 documentary "Sicko" about the American medical industry. In many ways, this has proved to be ...

He Was Never Any Good At Hide & Seek
Advantages: sensitive adaptation of the biography of the same name, good acting and character portrayal Disadvantages: a bit soppy at time, events not in order in which they happen in the book
[Film Only Review] A few weeks ago I wrote about the amazing biography by Brad Cohen, how he overcame the stigma of Tourette syndrome* (TS from herein) and became a teacher and motivational speaker. Today I want to talk about the movie that actually first introduced me to Brad Cohen, who is not just a character in a movie but a real person. Brad Cohen developed TS in early childhood and was stigmatised by most of his peers, as well as some family, ... ...fulfil his ultimate dream, to become a teacher, the teacher he never had when he was at school. *Tourette syndrome (also called Tourette's syndrome, Tourette's disorder, Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, GTS or, more commonly, simply Tourette's or TS) is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by the presence of multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic; these tics characteristically ...
