668: The Neighbour of the Beast!!!
Advantages: Rockumentry! Disadvantages: The Peter Pan of rock!
...and head of the 'best rock school in Philadelphia' (and the East Coast, according to the maestro), has modelled himself on Jack Blacks manic creation or vice versa, such is the similarity of these two headbanger's. Both, while wanting to teach the kids to find their "inner rock star" when schools out, bring other human qualities to the table, something Mr Barford my old music teacher never did. I was lumbered with the Triangle in primary school to ... ...essential ingredient of being a rock star. You can't help but not secretly admire this guy as he does get the best out of them, but not too shy to say if they have it or not to their face, Gordon Ramsey style! The kids... The Collins twins-two identical five-year-old blonde bombshell surfer boys with floppy fringes-don't seem to have much talent but just enjoy shouting a lot into the microphone, encouraged by their mum who also wanted to be a lead ...

Not A Waste Of Time...But Getting There
Advantages: The hint of a conspiracy is always exciting Disadvantages: The production of the DVD quashes any hopes of conspiracy, even before the..."evidence" is given
...insight into the life of Jimi Hendrix, with feedback and opinion from a small number of people connected to him. And by 'people connected to him' I don't mean his parents, or his best friends. I mean recent biographers and ex-members of government organisations. These people argue the case that Jimi was murdered by a combination of his manager, the mafia and the US government. One interviewee persuades us that Hendrix was held down to a chair and ... ...the same 3-10 shots of Jimi playing guitar on a continuous reel - highlighting either a lack of funding, professionalism or enthusiasm by the creators. Or a mixture of the lot. The soundtrack even appears to not be Hendrix, but some basic guitarist performing an average, slow, rendition of 'All Along The Watchtower'.
It might just be me, but if ever there was a DVD that needed renting before purchasing, it was this one. ...

"Sicko" (2007) - FILM ONLY REVIEW Writer: Michael Moore Director: Michael Moore Running Time: 123 minutes Certificate: 12A (UK) / PG (Ireland) / PG13 (USA) It has become something of a cliché to describe Michael Moore as a controversial, polarising character. To some, he is the White Knight of the left whose regular-guy approach to discussing uncomfortable subjects should be applauded, while to others he is a man who has exploited vulnerable interview ... ...picture he wants to make his attention-grabbing documentaries a success. An entire industry has grown up attempting to discredit Moore's work and has given his reputation something of a battering over recent years, but while some of the criticism he has received has I think been justified, this has not prevented him producing his highly entertaining 2007 documentary "Sicko" about the American medical industry. In many ways, this has proved to be ...

He Was Never Any Good At Hide & Seek
Advantages: sensitive adaptation of the biography of the same name, good acting and character portrayal Disadvantages: a bit soppy at time, events not in order in which they happen in the book
[Film Only Review] A few weeks ago I wrote about the amazing biography by Brad Cohen, how he overcame the stigma of Tourette syndrome* (TS from herein) and became a teacher and motivational speaker. Today I want to talk about the movie that actually first introduced me to Brad Cohen, who is not just a character in a movie but a real person. Brad Cohen developed TS in early childhood and was stigmatised by most of his peers, as well as some family, ... ...fulfil his ultimate dream, to become a teacher, the teacher he never had when he was at school. *Tourette syndrome (also called Tourette's syndrome, Tourette's disorder, Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, GTS or, more commonly, simply Tourette's or TS) is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by the presence of multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic; these tics characteristically ...
