The Most Concise World War 2 Documentary ever
Review of The World At War (Box Set) by ak481

Advantages: Many Key Witnesses Available for commentary
Disadvantages: Very few stock images in colour.

The World at War Series is refreshingly unique, with the strong powerful voice of Laurence Olivier as Narrator, it offers an insight into both sides of the war, and best of all, alot of the key witnesses or participants of major events were still alive at the time of this documentary so a phenominal amount of commentary was available making this one of the most coverted History sets ever. It even goes onto describe the end of the War in Germany, ... Read review

School's in for Rocking!
Review of Rock School - The Complete First Series DVD by Ailran

Advantages: Paul Green, the kids, the music, the direction, everything!
Disadvantages: Not much, maybe the music if you really hate Zappa

...man. He runs his own Rock School in Philadelphia where he imparts his musical wisdom to a number of 9-16 year olds, and whatever you think of his methods they certainly seem to work. Rock School the documentary (surely School of Rock must have been based on Green and his school?) follows Green around as he prepares his kids for a couple of shows. A Black Sabbath tribute one for his new and less accomplished students and a performance at a Zappa convention ...
...is as good as most rock guitarists will ever be, how a kid that age can be so good I just do not know but when you see him, almost hidden by his guitar, you just sit there open mouthed at his ability to play. Then there is Madi, a bright, good looking young girl who wants to be a Sheryl Crow like performer and is always arguing with Green (in fact she is the one student who not only stands their ground with him but gives him as good as she gets ... Life In The Freezer - David Attenborough
Review of Life In The Freezer DVD by ivytoad

Advantages: So interesting, fun to watch, educational
Disadvantages: I want more episodes!!

I really love 'The Life Collection' from David Attenborough. The complete series of 'Life in the Freezer' was the third dvd of the collection that I bought. The series itself has six episodes which are all on one disc. They were originally transmitted in 1993. The six episodes are: Episode 1: The Bountiful Sea - All about the Southern Antarctic Ocean and the species in it Episode 2: The Ice Retreats - About when Spring comes and the wildlife ...
...the extreme conditions and how life continues, against all the odds. Episode 6: Footsteps In The Snow - The first man to stand in the South Pole and the struggle to get there. The dvd has a total running time of 174 minutes and each episode is around 30 minutes long. There are no special features on this dvd apart from the option of 'scene selection', this is quite a common feature on dvds these days, and nothing that special but it is nice and ... Read review

What an artist!!
Review of No Direction Home: Bob Dylan DVD by drpmulay

Advantages: its one of the best dvds i have bought
Disadvantages: nothing

The first time I heard Bob Dylan was in the wonder boys soundtrack ' Things have changed'. I loved it. There was something in his music which struck a chord. I didnot follow up on this artist, when I saw the documentary on the television. I was quite pleased to know, there are people in this world for whom passion is a singular direction in life. I have been told by many people, that I do not do justice to my work, I took their advice. But after ...
...but I feel I have some of his spirit in myself. It tells about the influences, his contemporaries had on him, but how far ahead he was from them. One statement from the documentary stands out in my mind,' you are always in the process of being made, the longer you remain in that state, the better it is for you.' Thank you Bob for your music, and thank you Martin Scorsese for such a fantastic documentary. ... Read review

Living the dream.
Review of Escape To River Cottage DVD by marilynmonroelike

Advantages: Watch when you want to - factual - great recipes.
Disadvantages: None

I have watched this DVD a dozen times now i think - its lovely a to see how Hugh enthuses about the simple life - growing your own veg, raising animals, and being self sufficient...as I also live on a small farm I get immense pleasure watching his trials and successes because I can relate to them myself. If you hanker for the country life this DVD is a wonderful introduction to what to expect - the fruits of your labours are very rewarding and the ...
...friendly as you see them in the dvd. In my area the going rate for meat swapping is 1/2 sheep = 1/4 cow :) not a bad deal LOL ..... if your a 'townie' and simply want to sit back and watch someone get dirty and cook great food you will also love this because its funny, light hearted and has some devine recipes. Highly recommended to everyone . ... Read review
