*THE CHRISTMAS INVASION (25th December 2006) (60 minute special) **BRIEF PLOT**
It's Christmas on planet earth and the Doctor is in the regeneration process, making way for the tenth Doctor, (played by David Tennant) to take the reigns… but unfortunately for the human race, the Doctor is drained of energy and fast asleep whilst an invasion by the gruesome enemy takes place… With Rose and Mickey first encountering some rather Jolly looking, but very dangerous, father Christmases, who are hell bent on finding the Doctor before he fully regenerates… then coming up against an out of control Christmas tree, they soon realise that there is more danger to the planet than first thought…
Then when the world is held to ransom by the Sycorax, a blood thirsty race who wonder the stars, it is up to Rose, aided by her old friend Harriet Jones, (played by Penelope Wilton), who has made it from being MP for Flydale north to become the Prime Minister, to try and save the day… until a cup of the old 'Rosie lea' brings hope from the TARDIS… and the story doth begin…
*Other characters in this feature length episode… Camille Coduri - Jackie Tyler Noel Clarke - Mickey Smith Penelope Wilton - Harriet Jones Adam Garcia - Alex Anita Briem - Sally Chu Omambala - Major Blake Sean Gilder - Sycorax Leader
**NEW EARTH (15th April 2006)
This is the first episode for series two, discounting the earlier Christmas special, starring the newly regenerated Doctor, (played by David Tennant) and his assistant Rose Tyler, (played by Billie Piper). The Doctor takes Rose to some weird galaxy in the year 5 billion and 23 to see New New York, only to find the pair being transfixed by a Hospital which is run by cats and has the cure to every disease known to man…
But as the pair become separated it is not long before Rose is reunited with an old acquaintance and is soon in danger… whilst the Doctor sees more than he can believe. Then, as the Doctor and the 'new' Rose begin to investigate the hospital the truth soon emerges, revealing some terrible hidden secrets and a glimpse into the doctors future…
Can the doctor save the day or is the New world destined to become obliterated before it can really begin?
*Other characters in this episode… Camille Coduri - Jackie Tyler Noel Clarke - Mickey Smith Zoë Wanamaker - Cassandra Sean Gallagher - Chip Struan Rodger - Face of Boe Doña Croll - Matron Casp Michael Fitzgerald - Duke of Manhattan Lucy Robinson - Frau Clovis Adjoa Andoh - Sister Jatt Anna Hope - Novice Hame
**IN CONCLUSION** The Christmas special is brilliantly written and the acting does it credit, considering that the new Doctor isn't that involved. Billie Piper, already making her name as the docs assistant, leads the way in this episode, giving it her all and doing an excellent job at it, creating an air of authority which is all her own…and when the 'regenerated' Doctor finally makes an appearance he does come across as a totally new character, (a far cry from the 'fantastic' Christopher Eccleston, who I thought was probably THE best Doctor ever scripted for).
When the new series starts properly, with New Earth, Russel T. Davis doe do a great job with his far fetched ideas and splendid imagination, giving his all for the entertainment of the general public… But let us take a look at David Tennant as the Doctor… I did find him a little 'one expression for all situations'… regarding his toothed grimace for all, which made me lose interest in the show slightly, (but I am a little biased regarding Eccleston as I thought he was the best Doctor ever), his calm manner and cool exterior.
In all… these two episode are very entertaining and do open up the stories for the forthcoming series… introducing Tennant as the new doctor with his different outlook on life and his… You can get a copy from www.amazon.co.uk for less than £12.00 if you want to of course…
