When Doctor Who returned to our TV screens last year I don't think people expected it to be the great success it has become. Then when Christopher Eccleston announced he was leaving we could not believe it. Why would you want to leave such a brilliant role? Anyway off he went and in came David Tennant to fill his shoes. I was worried Tennant would not be as good as Eccleston but I have to say I am wrong and this first DVD in the new second series of the show is one of the best yet and here is why.

What is Doctor Who?
Doctor Who is about a travelling time lord and his companion. Together they travel through time and space looking for monsters and strange lands that they can explore and every so often they have to save the world again. Well it is all in a hard days work for these pair.

Cast:
David Tennant - The Doctor Billie Piper - Rose Tyler Noel Clarke - Mickey Smith Camille Coduri - Jackie Tyler
Verdict on
the Cast:
Well I happen to have a great love for David Tennant anyway as he was great in Casanova but in Doctor Who he has the abililty to do everything that Eccleston could do and more. I think Tennant is fantastic in the role and brings about a real sexy swing to the Doctor and he manages to make the character quite scary but yet so loveable at the same time which is great.
Billie of course is wonderful and plays Rose with ease and like an actor who is really cherishing every moment she spends playing this character. Camille and Noel are as wonderful as always and again just look like they are having so much fun making the episodes. I love it when a whole cast gets the characters so right and these guys manage it perfectly.

Episode on the DVD:
The Christmas Invasion:
This episode practically follows on from where the first series left us so Rose is getting used to the Doctor regenerating and the Doctor having just regenerated needs a lot of rest. They return to London in the present day and visit Jackie and Mickey who take them in to look after the Doctor. Meanwhile what looks suspiciously like a UFO appears over London and with many people making their way to roof tops, tensions begin to rise.
New New Earth:
The Doctor and Rose visit a new Earth and in particular a hospital that has been calling out to the Doctor. While there they see that all of the staff are cats and that an old friend and an old enemy are in the hospital. These cats have secrets though and they need to figure out what they are before the whole world suffers.
Verdict on the Episodes.
These two episodes are so great because they both are so entertaining and so funny. The Christmas invasion sees David Tennant get stuck in his role and begins to show what a cheeky Doctor he is going to be. It successfully continues from the last series and also manages to have a great festive feel to it which is strange considering the subject matter is aliens. That is the talent of Doctor Who though.
The second episode is one of my favourites from the series because it is so funny and I love the fact that some old characters come back. The script is sharp and at times the episode is very scary but at others it just makes you roll around in laughter.

Verdict:
After a fantastic series of this new run of Doctor Who I just hoped that they wouldn't lose their touch with the second and these two episodes show that the writers and cast are back on top form.
The DVD cover is quite fun, funky and looks very science fiction and this is exactly what you are getting. I think fans of science fiction will love it but people who don't usually watch it should still give it a go as it is so much fun. The episodes are some of the best of the second season so it is one DVD I recommend getting.
The one person I am going to talk about is David Tennant. Now I am not joking ladies but this guy can seriously make you drool at the screen. He has the type of voice that makes you just want to throw yourselves at him and then when he smiles it just makes your heart melt, he is gorgeous. Lucky for us he is a great actor and manages his role with such ease. What I love is that you can tell he loves the role and appreciates being chosen for it so he alone makes this DVD worth buying.
The only complaint I will have about this DVD is that there are absolutely no special features. They do this so they can save them all for the complete box set of season 2 as it will make people want to spend more money getting the whole series together. It is a shame they cant put a little something on though such as a teaser for the next DVD but never mind.
In conclusion this DVD definitely gets a big five stars for being absolutely wonderful entertainment. Yes it is cheesy and is seen to be a bit geeky but when you are having this much fun then I don't care at all.
Thanks for reading.

Great review, but David Tennant is mine! My favourite role of his is still in Blackpool though, I think he is still finding his feet as the Doctor. :-)

I don't see what all the women see in David Tennant either, but he is pretty good as the Doctor (although I think I still prefer Ecclestone). I agree with g-virus, £9 is a lot of money for two episodes! John
