Doctor Who started way back in 1963, with William Hartnell playing the Doctor! And his performance must have been so strong as we as a whole are still obsessed with this gripping programme, 44 years later! In the 21st Century, we have met two new Doctors. The 9th Doctor was played by Chris Eccleston, a cheeky chap. But at the end of Series 1, the Doctor regenerated, and introduced us to our latest 10th Doctor, David Tennant! His battles were accompanied by his latest companion, Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper. In this second series of the phenomenal show, together they embark on thirteen teriffic adventures, and they have invited us along with them...
**EPISODES**
***TheChristmasInvasion: The Doctor has a new face and Rose is horrified back on Earth. Nevertheless, it is still down to her to save the Earth from an invasion of Sycorax when the Doctor falls ill after his regeneration. These sycorax are controlling the world with Blood Control and luckily Rose is not affeced. Can she, Jackie and Mickey help the Doctor AND save the world?
This was actually the first episode of Doctor Who I watched, and I can certainly say it opened my eyes to a whole new aspect of television. Never had I seen a show like this which combined such strong emotions and relationships, but could squeeze in comedy too! And David's "I Dont Know!" when he mocked the Sycorax was hilarious! A great episode for Christmas Day!
***NewEarth: Rose accepts the Doctor for his new face, and off they go to New Earth, thousands of years on, when the Doctor is summoned up to the ward where he meets an old friend, the Face Of Boe. Rose is taken away by evil Cassandra where she forces herself back to human form in Rose's body, and sets out to cause some trouble. Hidden away, the Cat nuns are breeding 'humans', full of every disease imaginable, in order to come up with the perfect cure. It is up to the Doctor and now Cassandra to stop this, but can they do it withought catching anything?
This is by far one of my favourite episodes from Series 2. The sheer giddiness of Rose in the beginning is laughable, and I found all those patients with different diseases fascinating, along with the technical and medichal terms! Zoe Wannamaker
was fabulous in this too!
***ToothAndClaw: Our first adventure begins on Earth, way back to the Victorian Era, where we meet Her Majest Queen Victoria at her home in Balmoral! But this is not an ordinary holiday home! Unknowingly to the queen, a human-werewolf is locked in the attick, and its a Full Moon...can the Doctor save the day?
When i first watched this episode, I did not like it. Then I watched it again, and now I absolutely love it! My love for History has helped me to connect with this episode too! And when Rose was trying to get Queen Victoria to say "I am not amused!", I certainly WAS amused! Also, werewolves scare me so...!
***SchoolReunion: The Doctor, Rose and Mickey go to a present day school and act as staff, when they bump into one of the Doctor's old companions, Sarah-Jane Smith, and his tin dog, K9. The four of them discover that creatures who go by the name of the Krillitane are taking over the whole school and feasting on the children. Together, they must work together to save the school and everybody in it from these dangerous forms.
Elisabeth Sladen adds to the greatness of this episode. Along with the tin dog, this is the only episode which I like when Rose feels a sence of neglect from the Doctor. The modern school must have been an amazing plot location!
***TheGirlInTheFirePlace: Mickey joins the Doctor and Rose on their journey to a spaceship. It looks abandoned, but did they check behind every window? Through a portal in it 17th Century France, and the Clockwork droids are trying to harm Madame De Pompadour. Can the Doctor save her?
This episode is amazing. Again, my love for both History and France are brought into it. I love the way the writers combined both future and past in this single episode. And Sophia gave a marvelous act! She is a very lucky girl!
***RiseOfTheCybermen (part one of two): Doctor and Rose find themselves cast on a parallel universe - Parallell Earth. They investigate a party at the parallel Tyler's house where Pete is still alive, and Rose is slightly different! Everything seems normal, until the Doctor encounters and old enemy...
I did not like this episode, and I still do not. It is dull, boring and far too emotional. The only descent thing is that we get to see new sides of people.
***AgeOfSteel(part two of two): Things have heated up and the cybermen are taking over, storming through the streets of London. It is time for both Parallel and ordinary teams to join together and fight to save the planet.
Like the first part of this episode, I do not like it. I think the way the problem is resolved is lame, and leaving Mickey behind was not very nice either.
***TheIdiot'sLantern: We go back to 1953, where it is the Coronation of the Queen Elizabeth II. But this is no ordinary coronation! Hidden away in a backstreet Televesion shop in a creature. And they are controlling the whole of london with the power of television...
I have mixed opinions on this episode. I do like it, and the History in it too. But I find the Wire all a bit too plain and simple. It's too easy! And I was upset when Rose was captured too.
***TheImpossiblePlanet(part one of two): The Doctor and Rose land on another spaceship, run by humans. They discover they are orbiting a BlackHole far away in the galaxy. Can they stop themselves from getting sucked in...?
This episode really cheered me up after several dull episodes before it. It is quick, sharp and different. I mean, it's not every day the Doctor is about to get sucked into a black hole! The Ood really made me laugh too!
***TheSatanPit(part two of two): Just when they thought things couldn't get any worse, a Beast controls the mind of the ships' 'slaves', the Ood, possessing them and one of the crew members. It is up to the Doctor to save them, but can he do it?
I'd say the way this story unravelled is amazing! It didn't drag, and Possessed Toby was so freaky! The Greenscreen acting and computer graphics of the Beast scenes were phenomenal!
***LoveAndMonsters: A group of people who have an interest in the Doctor form an organisation. This becomes a regular, warming meeting, until an obsessed man gets involved. But this is no ordinary man, and he has no ordinary obsession...! When I first watched this episode, I didn't like it. I watched it for a second time, and I guess it was a little better. The fact that we don't see much of the Doctor or Rose is a bit draining, but the fact that it is different, and told in the point of view of somebody mortal, is thrilling.
***FearHer: We go back to London 2012, getting ready for the Olympics. But disaster strikes! You'd think a little girl's drawings would be harmless,

but they are unlocking an evil creature...Look Out!I do not like this episode that much, but I have never sat down and watched the entire thing. I find the whole idea of a man locked in a drawing all a bit too boring!
***ArmyOfGhosts(part one of two): Rose, Doctor and Jackie land in Torchwood Institute after happenings of mysterious Ghost Shifts. Yvonne Hartman, owner of the Institude, claims the Ghosts have nothing to do with her, they just came with the Sphere they got hold of. So what is going on?
***Doomsday(part two of two): A War has started. The Cyermen 'v' the Daleks. And as usual, the Doctor is caught in the middle of it. He has to get them back to the Void, but the gateway to the Parallel Universe will be damaged forever. Rose makes a decision and sticks to it, but was it a good idea?
ArmyOfGhosts/Doomsday. These have to be the worst episodes to be made. Ever. But they did give Billie a superb send-off. "Earth. This was where I was born. And this is where I died." Those beautiful words at the beginning were beautiful. When we first saw the Cybermen return, I really thought things could not get worse. Things had hit the bottom. That was the end. But then we saw the Daleks. I let out the biggest squeel. I could not believe it. Now, things most definitely could not get any worse. But again I was wrong. When Rose let go of the Magna Clamp, I was literally screaming at the TV, and the words I screamed to Billie were kind of horrid! I could not believe it! I think as soon as the episodes hit the Doomsday part, I cry all the way through it. When it is over, I look a complete mess! My eyes are sore and red, and my mascara is running down my cheeks! (really should invest in waterproof!) I think one scene that hits me quite a lot is when Doctor and Rose are pressed against both sides of the wall. It is magical. I was watching Confidentail and Russell said that little children were loving being scared by the horrid monsters, but when they saw that scene where they were separated, that was a totally different type of 'scare' and they did not like it. And Russell is right. Being scared by the Ood or the Sycorax - that is thrilling. But this, this makes you depressed and releases perhaps a bit too much emotion! So much talent was put into this, and a great performance from Tracy-Ann Oberman too (Yvonne). Watching this episode now is quite weird too as when I look at Adeola (Freema Agyeman) I instatly see Martha in her! Slightly confusing...!
***** --David Tennant-- Being David's first series, he was marvelous! I understand a lot of people were upset to see Eccleston leave, but David was my first Doctor, and he introduced me to a whole new life (and love!) David's acting skills are incredible! He can combine comedy and emotions in the same scene - which not everybody can do! All in all, Tennant is my Doctor!
--Billie Piper-- This being Billie's second series, you'd think she'd given all she had to give. But this girl is spectacular, an inspiration to all. Young and blonde, she is the perfect companion for the Doctor. She may not have the brains, but she has a logic brain. She knows what is right and what is wrong! Rose suits Billie's face, and vice versa. She is a wonderful role model for young girls everywhere (inc me!)
***** **Merchandice** There is a lot of new Series 2 Merchandice out, ranging from DVDs, figures, stickers and top trumps cards, books and even jigsaw puzzles!
**The songs and soundtracks for this series were superbly written by Murray Gold and Neil Hannon, and performed by BBC Wales Orchestra!
***** Majority of people will have a series they prefer. For me, it is definitely Series 2!
