I am a HUGE fan of this show, now I am going to tell you why!
So, I staarted watching the show at the start of the new series with Chrisopher Eccleston as the ninth doctor. I fell in love with the relationhip between the Doctor and Rose Tyler, I think that they are the best pairing on TV - by that I mean doctor/rose. What? you think, how can a 19 year old girl fall in love with a 900+ year old timelord. Well part of the reason is that the doctor was alone before he met Rose, the time war had ended, leaving him the only time lord left in the whole universe. He needs Rose as much as she needs him.
Then as you may know, at the end of series 1, he regenerates into David Tennant. Also, before I go into that, another charecter Captain Jack, is left behind (accindently I might add) on the 'gamestation' in the last episode. He now stars in a spinoff series, 'Torchwood'.and is due to appear in DW again in series 3 - which is currently
airing, with the third episode 'Gridlock' on tomorrow.
Anyway, back to....David Tennant! I didn't know who he was until I saw him in DW. So I did some searching and found that he has been in various other TV dramas, like Cassanova, Secret smile and Blackpool. I think he is a fantastic actor, give him any script and he'll do it brilliantly. I'm not going to give you too much info on him, or I'll be here for ages! But in the show, I think he has great chemistry with Billie, thats what makes it such a great relationship between the doctor and rose.
The boxset itself is very nice, well designed, I like the use of the many different pictures on each part of the set. You also get an extra disc containing all the confidentials, these were shown on BBC 3. Sadly these are the cut down versions, but you also get deleted scenes and David and Billie's video diaries, which are very good.
So that most important part - the series itself!
New Earth Well they had to start off somewhere, I think this was a neither good nor bad episode. It's not one that I would watch many many times, just a few. Of course as I am a dr / rose shipper ( shipper means that I like the pairing...go search it on wiki) I liked the kiss between them, even if it was cassandra taking over her body, but just forget that! I was a nice episode, nice...
Tooth and Claw Great episode! Sir Doctor and Dame rose! I loved the werewolf, thanks to the guys who do the CGI stuff. It was awesome!
School reunion So, rose meets Sarah Jane - a former companion of the doctor. As Mickey describes it - "the missus and the ex." Aw and K9! It was good, not as good as Tooth and Claw but better then New earth.
The Girl in the Fireplace I know many would disagree with me but I hated this episode. There was barely any doctor/rose moments in there at all, she was left with Mickey-the-Idiot.. I hated Reinette, and she got to snog the doctor, this is not fair!
Rise of the Cybermen/age of steel Oh the Cybermen are back! in a parallel universe, where Rose's dad is still alive. Good double episode.
The Idiot's Lantern I liked this episode a lot. They were all dressed up to go to a concert and ended up in London, just before Queen Elizibeth II's co rination. Great episode as ever.
The Impossible planet/ The Satan pit Brilliant story with a happy ending, I was on the edge of my seat. Truely fantastic!
Love and Monsters What can I say, sorry WHY have an episode where the main characters only appear for a short period? And so near to two final episodes aswell.
Fear her Fantastic episode, so simple but so well done! There is a good amount of Doctor/rose-ness in there too.
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday So the Finale, Daleks, Cybermen and a parallel universe. I would be amazed, if anyone who had watched this series and hadn't cried at the ending. Even I cried, I havent cried so much in a long time. Oh now I seem really pathetic, crying over DW. It was heartbreaking to watch them say their tearful goodbyes on that beach. and the 'doomsday' music - incredible! Murry Gold is a fantastic composer! Thank you Russell T Davies and all the cast and crew for a spectacular series! Goodbye Bille!
This is an exellent buy, for anyone who has read this review and though..'.Ooh this sounds good', it would be a great present. I highly recommend this boxset!
Hope you've found this helpful.
