If it is ok with you guys then i will review the dvd content and the packaging for both the normal and the special cyberman edition. It should help make a decision between the 2. I am new to this review lark but hope i can help if anyone is umming and ahhing over whether to get this series or not. I will try my hardest to be fair and un biased.
The normal dvd has exactly the same content as the special cyberman box set. The only 2 differences are that the special edition has a dalek postcard and cheapo plastic moulded cyberhead that is stuck to the box.
Which brings me round to the packaging, The special edition does not fit snuggly onto your shelves but if you are a collector who will not be watching it often then this will not be a problem. If you just want to watch the tv series over and over then go for the normal edition as it fits on your shelf and is less hassle to get to the dvds.
There are 6 dvd's and many of the episodes have audio commentary or in vision commentary. The Christmas Invasion and the Children in Need episode are included but the Tardisodes are not. There are also a few standard out -takes on disc 1. (The cyberman in the park is my favourite)
What is unique about this dvd set is the audio navigation facility. Now to the majority of people this will make no difference what so ever. For my mum and those that have difficulties seeing the navigation and menu screens, then it is a god send.
The other extras on the final disc are a mixed bag really. I am trying to be fair as i personally was very happy with the price and the quality but i am aware that a lot of Doctor Who fans had a few issues with what was included in the extras so I will mention the concerns I have heard as an aid.
The Doctor Who Confidentials are only the cut down versions and not the full aired versions. Also David Tennants video diary was welcome but very badly edited. It is not in chronological order so ends up being a little confusing. As mentioned above the Tardisodes (the online mini episodes) are not included.
Having mentioned the concerns now it is only fair that i rave for a moment or two about how amazing Doctor Who series 2 is. Oh please... can i?
Squeeee. David Tennant is lovely, very funny and endearing. Billie Piper is fun to watch and well the bad guys are just amazing. I defy anyone not to shed a tear at the last episode.
It really is nice to have a tv series that all the family can watch. I think it is a great gift for Christmas and honestly worth the £40-50 price tag. I have seen it for more but seriously why bother when amazon, play.com, send it. com and woolworths have it for this low price.
I think the normal edition is more usable than the special cyberman edition. The whole series is watchable over and over and I can't wait for the next series.
I hope you this review has helped.
