Advantages: Great story, good production values Disadvantages: Makes you want to buy more BBC DVD's
...getting back into the older Doctor Who stories and Tom Baker is definitely the classic Doctor in my book. The problem I find with these BBC DVD's is that usually they are very overpriced (the RRP tends to be £19.99), when all you usually get is about an hour and a half of programme and some crappy extras. That's not the case with this 2 DVD story; 'Genesis Of The Daleks' was a six episode story (they were usually 4 around this period) and has some ... ...Baker's incarnation as the Doctor (1975). He has two companions, Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) and Harry (Ian Marter). These are two good assistants, Sarah able to hold her own and get stuck into the action, and Harry being of real assistance, with good ideas and muscle power.
My first childhood memories of Doctor Who were of Tom Baker metamorphosising (better spellcheck that one!) into Peter Davidson. In this respect I missed a lot of the classic ...

Birth of the Daleks Review ofDoctor Who - The Genesis Of The Daleks DVDby

Advantages: The beginnings of the Daleks explained! Disadvantages: Dated looking sets
...as I love Jon Pertwee's Doctor the dalek stories in his era were very bland, i got the impression that stories like 'Day of the Daleks' and 'Death to the Daleks' were just an excuse to please viewers eager for a return of the popular foe. More than ten years had passed since the Doctor's first encounter with the Daleks on Skaro, back then ironically he looked much older, had three companions- Barbara, Ian & Susan and had no idea of what he was dealing ... ...limits to their patience. The Doctor renowned for being an outcast from his own people really in my view is used by the Timelords in this story. They recognise the sheer terror and power the Daleks will hold on countless civilisations and feel the Doctor must go back to their beginning to ensure paradoxically that they never happen. After falling foul of the aptly named Kaleds (an anagram of Dalek) on Skaro he manages to escape and get close to the ...

Advantages: A great dalek story Disadvantages: drags a bit
Doctor Who, Genesis Of The Daleks is one of the better dalek stories.
The story starts when the doctor is transported to the planet of Skaro by the timelords who wish the doctor to change the future by destroying the daleks. After finding his companions, the doctor and harry are captured by the Kaleds, a race who are at war with the thals. Sarah is captured by the thals after being discovered by mutants known as the mutos. All three try to escape ... ...time ring, their only way of escaping Skaro. But he must defeat Davros, evil creator of the daleks and prevent the daleks from ever being created.
The story is an original one but it does drag abit. But one of the good things about this story that it allows more dalek action and it reveals how the daleks were created.
The special effects are wicked. The daleks were great. The ray gun effects were really good. Also the sets and locations were also ...

this is one of (if not) the best stories ever released. you get the history of the daleks evolution. the first appearance of davros. the doctor has a tough decision to make whether to destroy the daleks or try to change their evolution. the giant clams were a bit sad though. peter miles was excellent as nyder. he was pure evil.

Advantages: Daleks, Tom Baker, Davros, Skaro, Nuclear War! Disadvantages: How can perfection have disadvantages.
...DoctorWhoGenesis of The Daleks.
This is the best DoctorWho story ever! Stunning, well acted, well written and the answer to the question of the Daleks creation. We see the introduction to Davros, the conclusion to the 1,000 year war between the Khaleds and Thals and the beginningd the Doctor's greatest enemy.
Tom Baker is at his very best in this. Michael Wisher as Davros is chillingly evil and menacing. Characteristics instilled in his Daleks.
The Doctor's speech when he has the chance to destroy the Daleks totally, "Do I have that right", is the finest piece of scripting in any Dr who story written.
This is pure science fiction poetry and a must have for any Dr Who fan. This story is the one you must show to anyone wanting to see what Dr Who was and is all about.
As with all Dr Whodvd's there are extras. But the cast...

...Genesis of the Daleks
I am reviewing the two disk DVD set of the Tom Baker DoctorWho story “Genesis of the Daleks”
I hadn’t seen this story in quite a while since UK Gold in around 1993/4 and as my interest was being revived again I saw this on BlahDVD.com for around £7 and thought why not.
I remembered quite a bit about the story from the last time I watched it and this was another reason for buying it as I thought that this was one of the best stories ever made, and certainly in my top ten Who stories.
I had always remembered the Daleks from a very early age as my earliest memory of the series was in 1977 and always looked forward to their appearance.
I shall now run through the two disks.

Plot – The Time Lords see a point in the future when the Daleks will cause terror and destruction around...
