...not know who or what Doctor Who is. For those of us any older, this is rather difficult to accept. You see, we all grew up watching this unique, quirky SF-horror-adventure show. It is as much part of the fabric of our childhood as spangles, Action Man/Barbie, ten-pence mixtures, boring Sunday afternoons, Kola cubes, skipping/football in the streets, Blue Peter…I could go on (as most of you know all too well!)
If you have ever seen a humorous ... ...then wonder no more – Doctor Who is your answer and it has provided many new words and phrases to the cultural language of Britain. It is the longest-running SF programme in the world, running from 1963-1989 with a further American TV Movie in 1996. It is a show that is constantly voted by the public and select critics alike, as one of the best television shows of all time.

The Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) is exiled to Earth by the Time Lords and has had his ability to operate the TARDIS taken away from him. The TARDIS lands him on Earth in the middle of a massive meteorite shower. He is found by UNIT troops and taken to a nearby hospital where he falls into a coma. When he wakes he is confused and appears to know The Brigadier (head of UNIT in the UK) although no-one knows him. The meteorites turn ... ...scientist, Dr Elizabeth Shaw, the Doctor sets out stop this plan and (as usual) save the Earth from invasion. Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge- Stewart, seen previously during Patrick Troughton’s “Doctorship” and UNIT are soon drafted in to help when meteorites and people start going missing. What follows is a great adventure with some great action and some very chilling moments. When the Doctor and Liz are hiding in the waxworks, ...

TOTAL DESTRUCTION Review ofDoctor Who - Spearhead From Space DVDby
KarenUK
Advantages: Great story, great features Disadvantages: None
...my husband and I love Doctor Who, as do our four children, it was inevitable that an early DVD purchase would include a Doctor Who release and here it is – Spearhead From Space.
This story is special to fans of the series as it is the first story shot in colour and the first adventure for Jon Pertwee - the third face of the loveable time traveller. It is special for me because it was being filmed when I was born (October 1969) and it is the story ... ...inclusion in the Doctor Who Chronicles. Despite having therefore seen the whole story countless times, it remains one of my favourite stories.
STORY
Pertwee’s first story sees him facing the Autons in one of the scariest Doctor Who stories ever made. This one still stands up well to modern audiences and its horrific images are just as capable of dragging out gasps of shock from anyone watching it for the first time. Spearhead From Space contains ...

...colour, a new start for Doctor Who or at least it was in 1970.
Spearhead From Space was Jon Pertwee’s first story as the Doctor, having been regenerated by the Timelords and exiled on earth in the previous adventure, Spearhead picks up the thread with the Doctor arriving somewhat confused on earth in England and in Oxlye Woods, and promptly collapses and gets taken to hospital, where he spends the first episode. Meanwhile The Brigadier (Nicholas ... ...come alive.....
The first Doctor Who story to be made in colour and also to be recorded entirely on film (as opposed to videotape) due to industrial action, and with it being digitally remastered, the prints cleaned up and restored soundtrack, make it a pleasure to watch, the fact that it is on film makes a whole lot of difference, as you can tell.
The involvement of the Brigadier and UNIT was to give a backbone to the earth based stories, that ...

Advantages: An enjoyable watch. Disadvantages: Could have better special effects and story
Doctor Who Spearhead From Space marks Jon Pertwees first episode as the Doctor. But unfortunately, the episode does not live up to expectations.

The Doctor arrives without incident only to find that the Brigadier will not allow him access to the TARDIS. But the Doctor does agree to help UNIT on their latest task. Advantages: String plot, wonderfully acted, Disadvantages: Auton acting a little plastic!
...Perfection, is just about the only word that can describe this the first Joh Pertwee story. It really set the tone for the next 4 years of his reign as the Doctor. Wonderfully written beautifully acted and with one of the creepiest enemies ever featured, The Autons.
The first part of the story sees a mysterious two hearted hospital patient claim to be the Doctor, who has been exiled to Earth, for crimes against Time, by his masters the Timelords on Gallifrey, and insisting that he knows Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge Stewart of UNIT. Alongside this, mysterious goings on at a plastics factory are being examined closely, following a strange meteor shower. Faceless creatures lurk everywhere, waiting for the time to launch the invasion of the planet Earth.
Can this strange man, who looks nothing like the Dr he knows, really be the same man...
