This final volume in the third series sees the Doctor, (played by David Tennant) being reunited with a friend from his distant passed… only for the reunion to cause the near annihilation of the human race…
This disc contains the only three parter in the Doctor Who series and when you begin to watch the first you will soon realise that the story being told is way too extravagant for a simple two parter…
With a massive cast brought in for these episodes we see the return of a few familiar characters, some thought dead and buried… some who don't realise who they are…
The first episode uncovers who's who and the episode thereafter simply enthral the audience with such brilliant drama and thrills like no other… and once the truth is discovered the frightening reality rears its ugly head for all to fear…
** BRIEF PLOTS **
* UTOPIA (16th June 2007) ( part 1 of 3 )
As the TARDIS makes a brief visit to the Cardiff, refuelling from the rift, it soon attracts an old friend of the Doctors, Captain Jack Harkness, (played by John Barrowman), who is determined to contact the Doctor, what ever it takes…
The TARDIS immediately sees Jack as a threat, (due to a drastic transformation he undertook in the series 1 final episode 'Parting of the Ways' and his encounter with the Daleks and Rose Tyler), and attempts to elude him, fleeing to the ends of the universe, (where no Time Lord has been before), to the year 100 trillion, only for the determined Jack to follow by clinging to the side of the blue box, of which no mortal man can survive…
On landing at the end of the universe the Doctor soon discovers that human kind has almost gone, the only survivors living in fear from a cannibal tribe of interbred human types, hiding away inside a silo where a scientist called Professor Yana, (played by Derek Jacobi) and his insectoid assistant Chanto, (played by Chipo Chung), hoping to find the power to launch a rocket to take the surviving humans to a place called Utopia… the land of hope and glory, somewhere out on another galaxy…
With the doctors brains and the
professors imagination the pair work together to get the spaceship ready to fly, needing the special skills of Captain Jack to make the final connection… sending the ship with the remaining human race towards Utopia…
As the beginning of the ideal future for the human race nears the true identity of the Professor unravel, revealing its ugly head to the astonishment of the Doctor, leaving the him and his two companions at the mercy of the 'future kind'…

With the master, (played by John Simm), stealing the TARDIS and using it to travel back to the 21st century, he wastes no time in settling in… changing his name and becoming the a man with so much power… using his own technology to hypnotising the world to believe he is the man to trust…
When the Doctor, Jack and Martha managing to escape the terrors of the end of the universe it doesn't take long for them to realise who the master is, but what they can not figure out is what he is up to…
With the Doctor and the Master now at arms with each other the trouble escalates, putting Martha's entire family in danger, not to mention the entire human race…
The real hope on discovering the TARDIS is short lived as it soon becomes apparent that it is not the same machine it once was… it is now the master machine to help him with his evil plans…
With a failed attempt to reveal the true man behind the Masters Mask it is the Doctor whose existence is erratically changed by the Masters sonic device… leaving the world defenceless…allowing the rather weird Toclafane, the new friends of the Master, to help him in his conquest to become the Ruler of the Earth and beyond…
So as the ball shaped killing machines descend upon the population of the planet there looks like little hope for mankind… only one person can now save the world from total destruction… Martha Jones… the only hope of salvation…

A year has passed since the Master took control of the world with the help of the blood thirsty Toclafane, who have spent there time controlling civilisation under the threat of death…
With the Doctor indisposed, helplessly sitting in a wheel chair at the mercy of the Master, the freedom of the entire world still rests on the shoulders of Martha Jones, who has spent the last year walking the globe in the hope of finding the answer to help defeat the evil master, bringing hope to the entire planet….
As Martha returns to the shores of England she joins up with Doctor Thomas Milligan, (played by Tom Ellis) and a small resistance group who are intent on stopping the Master before he completes his final plans…
Meanwhile, with the Master having total control over the world, and the Doctor, it looks like the end of the world is nearer than anticipated and the Masters plan of Universal domination is adamant…
Only the bravery of Martha, together with the combining of minds united onto one fixed point can save the world from obliteration…. But can the Master be brought down before his plan becomes reality…?

** IN CONCLUSION **
What a fantastic finale to a very interesting series…
With the Doctor only really starring in two of the three episodes, not quite being himself in the last episode, the finale is really up to the acting skills of the recently acquired companion Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones…
... And what an excellent job she does with it, shouldering the responsibility with ease, bringing the storyline into reality, giving a perfect performance and giving herself a lot of credit for future projects…
I have to admit that when Freema first came into this series as the Doctor new assistant I was very unsure as to how she would cope with the pressure, co-starring in what was the viewers choice for a Saturday evening television, but my expectations were soon met as she began her quest to overthrow the companions great reputation left by her predecessor Billie Piper (as Rose Tyler)… Freema stepped into the role perfectly, confidently, without over shadowing the main stars…( it would have been interesting to see how she and Christopher Eccleston would have been as a partnership…).
As freema is the star of the very last episode she knows she has a great responsibility with most of the nations eyes on her. The critics, with their pens already in hand, waiting for the slightest mistake from the young actress… but she performs a great job.. To the disgust of the critics… giving the thousands of Doctor Who fans a brilliant memory of a fantastic finale with her as the companion…
But enough about Freema, I feel I have clearly stated how good she performs her part in these episodes, and throughout the entire third series…
Let us move on to the brilliant John Simm as the Master… he performs his part exceptionally well, his comically mad man approach to his character really giving the episodes that injection of witty banter which all good show require to keep the audience entertained… I have seen Simm in other shows, like Life on Mars, and I was in no doubt that he would give it all in his performance… and how right I was… pure genius is the word I'd use to best describe this man… (For the record…If Simm had not played the Master he would be a brilliant replacement for a regenerated Doctor… he has that daft Doctor mannerism..)
In fact, the entire cast, and there is a lot of them, combine to give a fantastic performance, telling the thrilling and action packed storyline in a gripping way… entertainment from start to finish.
It is good to see the smarmy, arrogant but very friendly Captain Jack Harkness back on the scene, performed by the ever so brilliant John Barrowman…. He certainly brings a different approach to any new stories…
Considering this IS a three parter, and expecting the action to diminish somewhere in the middle of it all, it doesn't lose anything at all… it is 142 minutes of brilliant action, entertainment, suspense and much more.
The imagination used to create this story is second to none, using a hell of a twist from the future to bring the threat to the present had to be written carefully, and it was. Russell T. Davis and his crew certainly thought long and hard about this entire series as each episode has little hidden secrets to entwine with other episodes… only really visible after you've watched the lot over and over again, then the show really does begin to make sense… sort of…
In all it is without doubt the finest volume created so far, (on Par with the excellent 2 parter in series 1, starring Eccleston and Piper.. The empty child and the doctor dances).
The special effects are exceptionally done, not too over the top, considering what they could have done, so as not to spoil the outcome of the episodes… giving great viewing pleasure for all.
This triple delight has everything even a good Hollywood blockbuster offers… pure brilliance…

Yes I certainly would…. Even if you're not a Doctor Who fan, it is still brilliant entertainment with many stunning scenes…
What more can I say… give it a try and you'll no doubt be impressed…
