Well, 44 years is a very long time, isn't it?! Doctor Who has been around for over four decades now, and it is stronger than ever now! The show was first welcomed to BBC Television in 1963, with William Hartnell playing the Doctor! But more recently, we have enjoyed the adventures of this TimeLord, alongside some fresh, new companions! In 2005, Doctor Who was brought back to our screens, introducing us to the 9th Doctor, Chris Eccleston! He starred alongside Billie Piper, who played teen traveler Rose Tyler! In 2006, the Doctor regenerated, revealing 10th Doctor David Tennant to star in Series 2! He worked alongside Billie until it was time for Series 3...where we are now! Our latest Doctor remained in the clasp of Tennant, but we were introduced to new companion Martha Jones, played by the wonderful Freema Agyeman!
***** The last DVD in the Series 3 collection is quite different! All three episodes are connected, which is quite unusual as, until now, Doctor Who had yet to tackle a tri-parter!
♥♥UTOPIA♥♥ The first of the three is Utopia. I didn't know what to expect with this episode, nor did I realized it was part of the 'trilogy'! Martha and the Doctor set off in the TARDIS, not knowing where to go. As they fly, there is a thud on the TARDIS wall (which turns out to be Captain Jack 'catching a lift'), then they land in a place unreal. The end of the universe. From the second Jack and the Doctor are reunited, and Jack has time to admire Martha, trouble strikes when a mob chases them. After escaping the unusual creatures, it is time to meet some new people on board a ship. The Doctor and the gang take it upon themselves to help YANA and ChanTho get the ship in flight to rescue all the humans on board. But all is not as it seems…
Now, going to the end of the universe can never be a good thing, can it? So straight away I knew this episode was going to be different! Though, I find it was not really 'Doctor Who'. We saw very little of the creatures themselves, so the episode seemed less threatening than I would have imagined. Not as gripping as I had hoped. I remember watching Blue Peter
a few days before this episode was aired on television, and I saw the little boy who won the Blue Peter competition to play one of the little boys, the one with the clipboard. So I had already seen parts of this episode, and thought it was going to be much better than it actually was! I guess I was too quick to judge! Now, Chan-I am afraid that was annoying-Tho!
♥♥THE SOUND OF DRUMS♥♥ After regenerating back to his Time Lord self, Harry Saxon lands on Earth, with the Doctor, Martha and Jack not far behind! Saxon becomes Prime Minister, and has control over most of the world. They see no harm, but when he captures Martha's family, and everybody seems to tap out the same, drum-beat rhythm, it is obvious that something is wrong! Can the Tardis Trio stop Saxon, save the world AND protect themselves?
I really do not know what to say about this episode! Well, to start with, tapping out that drum rhythm is an addiction! I didn't like the episode. I don't like Saxon. He was too cocky for my liking, too full of himself! And how he could always see the Doctor - I wasn't too keen on that either! Now… for his screwdriver! Yes, it may be swankier than the Doctor's, but it is a mere tool! This does not prove who is the better 'Lord! The Doctor will win…even if he is trapped…!
♥♥LAST OF THE TIMELORDS♥♥ The world is under the control of The Master and his little 'pets', the Toclofane! With Jack and the Doctor trapped in his sight, it is up to Martha alone to spread the word and save the world. As time creeps up, so does the Doctor, ageing more every second. As Jack is immortal, he may be able to help out, but he can only delay things, giving Martha a little longer. Can she do it? Can this lone human save the world on her own?
Being the last episode in a Series, it was without question going to be emotional! Having the Doctor small and weak, was quite unusual, something I did not personally agree with, but I guess it did fit in well! And I never did like Martha's family, so I didn't really feel much grief towards their capture! But Martha…how could she manage on her own? Travel the world unaccompanied?! The poor thing! So I was glad when she met Milligan! I loved Tom Ellis in Eastenders, and he was just as good in Doctor Who! And Lucy Saxon…she was a weird one. I could never work her out! Was she nice, was she not? Well, I guess she was warped, to say the least! Here come the drums! Classic! I loved that song, and when it played throughout my television set, circulating the living room, it was an amazing atmosphere! Creating rainbows over storms! And what a storm of a trilogy! In some ways, I didn't like it, but that is just me being my stubborn self! I didn't watch Torchwood, but apparently the 'Vote Saxon' posters were on there too? And dotted throughout Doctor Who - this I noticed! But at the end of The Lazarus Experiment, when Martha's mum phoned up Saxon, I knew she was the cause of trouble. And I was not wrong.
Truthfully, my favourite part of this episode is the very end, when we find out something special about the Face Of Boe! I shall say no more, I would not want to spoil the great surprise for those of you yet to see it!
***** ♥Attractive! Stylish! Unique! Three words used to describe the appearance of this DVD! The pink tinted colour of the cover and spine is divine, very modern yet retro (If this is even possible!) There are two new characters on the front…The Master and Captain Jack (as well as The Doctor and Martha!) The Master is centered, showing he is important, 'The Big Boss'! New boy in charge! Of course, he is complete with his ultra-sonic screwdriver! Cowering behind him is the Tardis Trio, looking very confused indeed! Of course, the Toclafane have infiltrated their way onto the front as well! Of course!
***** ♥This DVD is certificated PG, which I feel is appropriate, providing you can control emotions! All three episodes have been splendidly written by Russell T. Davies, more proof that he is a fantastic script writer and executive producer!
***** ♥Unlike other Doctor Who DVDs, this one came with a little 'freebie'! What is it? Well, it is none other than a free Top Trumps card to go in the new set (out now to buy - and I say you do, they are amazing fun!) When I opened the case, the card was facing down, so I could not see what the image was. I took this opportunity to have a good guess. I thought it would be The Master, common

the cover
sense and all, or the Toclafane. But I was wrong! It was none other than…Dalek Sec! I aint moaning or anything, but that was odd! I mean, Dalek Sec was not even mentioned in those three episodes! Ah well, it's a free card all the same!
♥Inside the case, I came across another leaflet, those which usually advertise old Doctor Who Dvds! But not this time! This one had an image of a Doctor Who dvd, but one much more unique! I have now learned that on the 5th November, The Infinite Quest (as seen on Totally') will be released to BBC Dvd! So, Remember Remember The Fifth Of November!
**** I think it goes without saying that these episodes would not be what they are if it was not for the amazing actors! Hats off to them!
♥♥David Tennant♥♥ Well, Mr Tennant has been the Doctor for an entire two series now, so that should have been plenty of time to see all of his skills, and more! But I am far from right! To pin-point just one specific moment when he stunned me, is to focus on the final episode, when he held the evil dying Saxon in his arms. The emotion just flooded out of him, I could not believe it! When that is combined with all of his Doctor Who work, more specifically Doomsday, it seems that there is not a thing that Tennant cannot do! He is splendid!
♥♥Freema Agyeman♥♥ Since joining the team in Army Of Ghosts way back in Series 2 as office-worker turned Cyber Victim Adeola, Freema has clearly worked her socks off! Her work over the past series has been amazing, nothing seems too difficult for her! Thirteen episodes on, I am very sad to see Martha go (despite hating her in the start - too attached to Rose!) but when I found she was returning after doing a few months with the Torchwood team, I did feel a bit happier! Freema is such a talented actress, and I hope she realizes how lucky she is to have spent nine months with the lovely Tennant!
♥♥John Barrowman♥♥ Who doesn't love John? He is amazing! When I first saw him in Series 1, I jealousy for Billie was even greater! He seemed like such a charmer! How glad am I that Jack was given eternal life in Parting Of The Ways?! Missed him for an entire Series, but nevertheless, he returned for the end of Series 3, and it was certainly worth the wait! I was pleased to see him back, and I am glad he still remains the same charming guy!
♥♥John Simm♥♥ Who? Honestly, I had not heard of Simm, I did not know what all the fuss was about! But clearly I had missed something! John Simm is an amazing actor, shown in these episodes, there is a certain comic characteristic about him I cannot put my finger on, but he has something special! It would be nice to see him make a return!
***** LITTLE EXTRA My friend and I were discussing how this episode would go if it were Rose and not Martha. Hand on my heart, I don't think it would have been as good! But one thing we found hysterical - Jackie! How would she react if Saxon put her beloved daughter in danger? Well, she would slap him of course…! 'When Jackie Met Saxon'! That would be one mega episode!
♥*****♥ Series one final episodes - great Series two final episodes - phenomenal
Series three final episodes - different, I shall give it that! Never again will Doctor Who be the same, saying goodbye to much-loved characters is tough, always creating a new Era…welcome, Series 4!

Dont worry the best is not yet passed; with the return of Martha Ep6 of the next series, the return of Davros, and a certain previous time travellers boyfriend things might get better still ;o)
Advantages: Excellent pace, acting, directing, music. Will keep you on the edge of your seat. Disadvantages: A couple of cheesy alien side-kicks, and a slightly unbelievable future.
