A new companion. A new style. A new Era.
***** Doctor Who started way back in 1963, with William Hartnell playing the Doctor! And his performance must have been so strong as we as a whole are still obsessed with this gripping programme, 44 years later! Since then, we have met 10 Doctors, and adored every one of them! This Doctor (10th) is played by the lovely David Tennant, living up-to-date adventures in his big blue box, more commonly known as a TARDIS. But the Doctor does not travel alone! He had lost his recent companion, Rose, in a battle on Earth and was set to travel on his own, but after a mishap at Christmas, he finds himself bumping into somebody else. No plans for a permanent companion, but what do you predict?
***** SMITH AND JONES Martha Jones is training to be a Doctor (of medicine) but when she goes into the hospital,
she finds herself and the building itself on the moon. She meets one of the 'patients' in her ward called the Doctor. Baffled as she was, Martha follows his instructions in order to get back to Earth and escape the terror that lies in the Shape Shifters and the Judoon!
THE SHAKESPEARE CODE The Doctor takes Martha on that 'one trip' to England in the Elizabethan era. They go to see a Shakespeare play, only to discover that it is being monitored by evil witch-like creatures called the Carryanites, who are using vudu to try and control the worlds of Shakespeare to release an evil precense. Seems like an impossible task, can the Doctor save them all?
GRIDLOCK The Doctor takes a second trip to New Eath, this time with Martha. It had changed a lot since his last visit with Rose, as it is now a lot further into the future! The entire city are in an endless traffic jam and it is time for the Doctor not only to stop that, but to meet an old friend, the Face Of Boe. It is time for a secret to be revealed, a secret like none other...
***** These fantastic episodes were written by Russell T. Davies and Gareth Roberts.
***** MY OPINIONS! The first thing I find fascinating about this DVD is the cover! It is extraordinary to see Freema on the cover! At first, it took me a while to get used to her, I was stubborn and decided I would like Rose and Rose only. But I am glad I have changed my opinion! SMITHANDJONES was quite a good episode to welcome Freema into! It was different to the rest! I mean, we hadn't been on the moon with Billie! Im glad they were giving the Doctor and Martha a new experience! THESHAKESPEARECODE is one of my favourites from Series Three to date. I love the History in it, and there is humour too! I have so much fun making up my own rhymes and speaking them in a creepy Carryanite voice! And a great performance from Christina Cole ie Lilith Carryanite! GRIDLOCK annoyed me. I cannot believe the writers could allow Martha to go to the place that was the first date of Rose and Doctor David. But putting that aside, the episode itself was good. And the two lesbian old women cracked me up! I was so sad when the Face Of Boe died, and I cried! I missed Rose, but was gradually beginning to let her go.
***** The soundtracks to these three episodes were superbly written by Murray Gold, and fantastically performed by BBC Wales Orchestra.
***** DAVID TENNANT I wasn't sure how David would be without Billie, taking Freema under his wing. I thought he may change the way he acted. But luckily, he didnt! I was so pleased! His spark is still there, and it is clearly shown in these three episodes!
FREEMA AGYEMAN Welcoming a new companion into Doctor Who is always hard. Leaving behind Billie was horrid, and Freema will never replace her, but damn she can try! She is an amazing actress! I think she knew she would get a bit of arrogance from Billie fans, but that clearly did not affect her acting skills! I do believe this is only the beginning for Miss Agyeman!
***** This DVD will last approx. 135 minutes, and is certificated PG!
***** This is one of my favourite DVDs from all three series, and I cant wait for the rest to be released!
