The sequel to Eddie Murphy's smash hit family comedy, DR DOLITTLE, will certainly not disappoint fans of the first film. Murphy returns as the doctor, who has now garnered some...
more...measure of fame for his communication abilities, at least among the animal kingdom. Dolittle is also dealing with his rebellious teenage daughter (Raven Symone). But he drops everything when he's summoned by "The Beaver," the Godfather figure of the local forest, to help the animals preserve their home by stopping an overly aggressive lumber company. To save the forest, Dolittle has to take a trained performing bear (also an endangered species, who is endearingly voiced by Steve Zahn)--and introduce him to the wild to find a mate. Zahn's bear, who would rather star on Broadway than hibernate in the woods, is the comedic heart of the film, but there's an entertaining array of colorful animal characters, including Lucky the dog (Norm Macdonald reprising his role from the first film) and Pepito (Jacob Vargas), a chameleon who can't quite seem to blend in. Director Steve Carr (NEXT FRIDAY) keeps things light and lively, creating another surefire hit for Murphy and his animal crew.

Doctor Dolittle 2 is a classic film that for me was even more entertaining than the first one (Doctor Dolittle). Again Eddie Murphy plays the animal orientated doctor, who can hear every bark, me-ow, and other noise that is made by any animal. But when they reach his ears, they magically turn into words for him to understand!

In Doctor Dolittle 2, Murphy is summoned to see a beaver! Trying to tell all of the beavers associate’s that he needs to book an appointment like very other animal (and human)! However Dolittle succumbs to the beaver and agrees to go and see him.

The beaver tells him the news that the forest is due to be cut down, and only Dolittle can help save it. Dolittle comes up with a plan (with a little help), and starts the task of training a circus bear that enjoys being a star, to become wild again! The court give Dolittle a month to come up with evidence-of-a-reason-to save the forest, which means training the bear to be wild again within the month. But will he do it? Can Doctor Dolittle save the day, and save the forest?

Dolittle has two daughters in the film; Charisse is the elder of the two and is dating a pizza delivery lad, who the kind doctor is keeping a firm eye when he turns up at the family’s forest retreat! Maya is the younger sister, and she loves animals. Indeed she is given a chameleon, which by the way doesn’t change colour.

The film goes from strength to strength, and has plenty of smiles, laughs, and emotion. Does Dolittle save the day or will the wicked greedy people who want to cut the forest down get their way?

Murphy gives an excellent portrayal of his character, as do the rest of his family. The ‘crooks’ of the film play their parts typically.

As for the Dolittle family dog, did anyone forget to tell him that he was a dog and not a wolf? Or maybe he fancies anything with fur?

Charisse finally admits a secret at the end, which will surely mean a doctor Dolittle 3? But if they continue to get better then it’ll be worth it. A great family movie, which appeals to a wide audience! It runs for about 90 minutes and is a certificate PG.
