Lawrence Jamieson (Michael Caine) is a well seasoned, though somewhat oily con artist living an extravagant lifestyle in Beaumont- Sur- Mer on the French Riviera, pausing only to con a new visitor to the resort (usually a rich widow) or to go off to bank his ill-gotten gains in Zurich. Aiding and abetting him in his deceptions are his butler/manservant and the police Inspector of the area who both take a good percentage of the proceeds. The Inspector ... ...and easy pickings.
At the beginning of the movie the inspector and Lawrence discuss a newspaper report of another expert con artist going by the name of the Jackal who seems to be heading their way, they must be on their guard there isn’t room for another conman in Beaumont –Sur- Mer.

...has a lot to learn. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a remake of a 1960's film which starred David Niven and Marlon Brando playing the leading roles. Set in a fictional, French resort Michael Caine as Laurence Jamieson has been making a good living by way of duping gullible females out of their cash. In league with the local head of police, played by Anton Rogers, he has a nice little earner set up. When Freddy Benson, played by Steve Martin, arrives in ... ...farce thrown in occasionally then this film should entertain and amuse you. Despite being twenty years old it is not really dated.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was directed by Frank Oz and more recently a stage musical has been made of this film.

Advantages: Clever Story, very funny in parts Disadvantages: Theatrical trailer only extra, few real belly laughs
...unmissable but it is enjoyable and definitely worth a look.
