My lovely readers, today I want to present you one of the greatest films I've ever seen! I almost could say it's the best film at all, but I'm sure many men wouldn't agree with that ;)
However a male friend of mine loves this film, too and he even knows lots of passages by heart! But his isn't the thing I want to talk about now. Let's talk about the film!

~~~~~~~
Preface
~~~~~~~

It's a bit crazy to write more than necessary especially in another language, but it's typical for me to write some kind of preface to special topics ;)
I think it was some years ago when I saw this film for the first time. And because I've got a sensitive side for such stories, I've been sold on it directly. But first of all it was a love story among other love stories, a real good, but not the best one. However that was before I recovered my passion to dance and got a bit older (I know I'm still not that old ;) ). And after I watched the film a second time some years later, it had another effect and I liked it much more. It was like love on the second look ;)

~~~~~~~~~~
The actors
~~~~~~~~~~

Let's begin with the best or just most popular actor of the film: Patrick Swayze. In Dirty Dancing he takes the part of Johnny Castle and he does a perfect job! Apart from the aspect that he graduated a training as ballet dancer before his career as an actor, the observer really gets the feeling that he blossoms out in this part! But some observers, especially female one, might think something else when looking at Patrick Swayze as Johnny Castle… Anyway, such a good looking, passionate and even romantic dancer has his preferences, or not?

But now we'll talk about the (dance-) partner of Johnny: Frances "Baby" Houseman played by Jennifer Grey. She fits in her part as well, as if it was make just for her. The dance- and love scenes seem to be so realistic that you don't want to believe that it's just acting. And I'm not the only one who thinks so, because with the film Dirty Dancing Jennifer Grey had the breakthrough in the show business, for what she, and also Patrick Swayze, got nominated for the Golden Globe.

Another important actor in Dirty Dancing is Cynthia Rhodes alias Penny Johnson, the real dancing partner and passed by love of Johnny. Even if her scenes aren't that full of dancing than the ones of our leading actors, you can see her love in dancing, too. But of course there are more than three actors in the film and so I want to give you some more names: Kelly Bishop, Jane Brucker, Jerry Orbach, Max Cantor und Lonny Price.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Audio-visual quality
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After you got to know something about the actors, I want to tell you something about the audio-visual quality. On the DVD It' mentioned that the film is completely digital revised, let's look if it's right. Oh well, in comparison to the old version, the visual quality got much better! But still you can't compare it to the newer films. However, the film is very old and this seems to be the best what's possible. We can see what's important and that's enough ;)

Now I'll tell you something about the audio quality and I've to say it's really good! Maybe it's reasonable in my pleasure for music. But especially the scenes with dance music really sound very good! Time to dream or to dance yourself 

~~~~~~~~~
The plot
~~~~~~~~~

It was the summer of 63 and they all called me baby… That's how the film begins. This sentence is spoken by Frances herself, who's on the way to an involuntary summer trip to a holiday hotel of the Cellermans with her sister Lisa and her parents.

At the beginning Baby isn't very happy about the holiday trip, but her curiosity is very big and so she goes out in the evenings and walks about. In the dinner room she meets Johnny for the first time. He seems to be a very cool and easy-going dancing master, who can't be irritated easily. But with baby it's another thing, surreptitious she's noticing the rule arrangement with the hotel owner, while her eyes just look at Johnny… Love on the first sight…

But the destiny doesn't mean it very good at the beginning. There's a guy her parents want to set her up with and he stays at her side… But on a dance Baby sees Johnny dancing with Penny and then has finally happened… Baby is completely fascinated by Johnny and so she starts visiting forbidden areas of the crew, where she finally meets Johnny. Here it gets obvious that she's in love with him, because not everybody is carrying a water melon ;)

However Baby thinks Johnny is the boyfriend of Penny, how could she think something else? But then she gets to know that the relationship between Penny and Johnny is over for a long time and she starts getting new hope. Yet that isn't enough… She receives attention of Johnny and they start to dance…

Some time later Baby gets to know of the pregnancy of Penny and that a waiter of the hotel is the father of the baby. But he's an asshole (sorry) and she wants to abort the baby. But she doesn't have the money for it and the only date when there's a doctor is on the same date, when there's a big dancing contest she has to dance with Johnny. Under a wrong reason Baby gets the money from her dad and wants to take Penny's place in the show.

It's not that easy to dance with Baby at the beginning, but love can replace mountains and give tact to Baby. How it has to be, Baby and Johnny come closer together and now both fall in love with each other. Everything seems to be good, but there have been complications with Penny's abortion. Baby's father now gets to know of it and gets angry with his daughter. And the crazy old lady, who wants to get Johnny, sees him with Baby together and plans revenge. She blames Johnny for a thievery he hasn't done. Johnny gets fired and everything seems to have a bad ending…

Now I want to stop telling you the story, I think you've got to see the rest on yourself. But In the end you'll all hear the best song of all "Time of my Life".

~~~~~~~~~~~
Conclusion
~~~~~~~~~~~

I hope you liked my review even though it's not the best referring to my language.
I have to say Dirty Dancing is a really great film and it's a pity that I couldn't see it in the cinema, but you can't have everything… This combination of passionate dancing and a wonderful love story isn't so easy to beat. And even Dirty Dancing II wasn't so good! But I think I've romanticised enough about it. Although I think more women like this film, I recommend the film for everyone and give five stars to it!

Well, Tina, let's say it's the best dancing film ever, not the best film, there are a lot of great ones, "12 Angry Men", "Rebel Without A Cause", "The Sand Peebles" and some of these http://www.imdb.com/chart/top ... Well, a question, do You have a German edition without any extras ? Well, in the product-details are stated some extras, are they missing on Your DVD ? Check here for details: http://dvd.ciao.co.uk/Productinformation/Dirty_Dancing_Wide_Screen__5658198 ... Best regards, Sven (Zoobremia)
