I watched this all the time on tv and it is definately a program you can watch again and again without getting bored. Some bits actually seem to get funnier!
For anyone that doesn't know, this half hour comedy is set in a factory canteen in England and centres on Bren (Wood), her mother (Walters), Philippa (Imrie), Stan, Twinkle, Anita, and various other staff. Each episode focuses on a number of days at the canteen and the everyday mundance lives of the staff. The comedy is witty, it plays on words and, although sometimes obvious, it is very funny. It is very easy going and relaxing to watch. Bren is the likeable main character, constantly plagued by her drunken mother, Petula.
The acting is excellent and the jokes well times. Victoria Wood has written a really good comedy. I don't think this would relly appeal to kids or teenagers, but if you want something easy to watch, humorous with a great cast then this is for you.
The DVD contains 10 half hour episodes, but no extras which is a shame as Victoria Wood and Julie Walters are as funny when interviewed as when they are reading from a script. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be on offer anywhere, the cheapest I have seen it is £16 which I think is a bit steep, but was worth it!
