On Christmas Eve, a New York cop comes to L.A. to see his estranged wife at her company's Christmas party, held on the top floor of a sparkling skyscraper. When terrorists capture...
more...the building, the incredulous cop is the hostages' only hope for survival.
One of the greatest action movies of the late 1980s, DIE HARD ushered in a new standard for the genre. With the dissolution of the Cold War, both the stereotypical Russian threat (represented in movies such as TOP GUN and RED DAWN) and the destructive egoist (as seen in OCTOPUSSY) became less fearful. With DIE HARD, director John McTiernan introduced Hollywood to a new type of villain: the terrorist entrepreneur. Alan Rickman stars as Hans Gruber, a relentless businessman whose lethal tactics achieve his goals. Unlike most '80s film villains who committed globally dangerous acts for liberty, genocide, or megalomania, DIE HARD's Gruber uses guns, explosives, and cunning to storm the Takagi Corporation's Christmas party and heist millions of dollars from the company. In addition, DIE HARD also saw the development of the clumsy or bad luck hero with John McClane (Bruce Willis), a man in the wrong place at the wrong time who chooses to intervene. Action fans would see this misfit hero archetype again in UNDER SIEGE (Steven Segal). Although DIE HARD contains many action movie cliches (one-liners, pyrotechnics), it also broke new ground in its genre.

BEFORE I START I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT THIS IS THE REVIEW OF THE DVD SPECIAL EDITION AND NOT THE VIDEO AS STATED!! PLEASE ALLOW FOR THIS, IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

A film to die hard for!!

O.K people, here's the situation......

Approximately 14 years ago, and unknown number of terrorists seized control of the Nakatomi building and all hell broke loose.

Yes John Mclane, New Yorks unluckiest cop is back in a double DVD to die hard for.

Die hard comes complete with its own special features disk, jam packed with more treats then the china man eats in the lobby.

Die hard speical features include movie trailers, documentaries, and editing suite to cut your own shot's and deleted scenes, well one that stands out an extra couple of minutes(only in black and white though) when the F.B.I(not the terrorists) cut the buildings power.

You can choose to watch the movie with or without the scene in my opinion watch it the way it was intended....Without.

The movie itself is the uncut version complete with 'takagi brain splat, computer room, knee blasting, bare feet broken glass, gory glory'

Starring:

Bruce Willis (John Mclane)
Bonnie Bedelia (Holly Genaro/Mclane)
William Atherton (Richard Thornberg)
Reginald VelJohson (Al Powell)
Alan Rickman (Hans Grueber)

Director John McTeirnan

Officer John Mclane is about to have a really bad time at the Nakatomi christmas party.

Trying to reconsile with wife Holly, who moved from New York to L.A because of his job. John stays in New York to ("deal with the 6 month back log of New York scumbags he was waiting to get behind bars") but any marital problems they are experiencing soon take a back seat when a few party crashers led by the truly evil Hans Gruber(Rickman) decide that they can't wait for santa to bring there presents. And want to liberate $1 million dollars from the Nakatomi vault.

And so the party games begin....

Maclane must save the hostages, stop the terrorists and stay alive. With terror at every turn and excitement on every floor, die hard is the action film to own for all action fans.

With a bit of help form Powell, a poor cop who just wants to get home to his pregnant wife and of course his twinkies, Mclanes efforts are not appreciated by the terrorists or some of the cops out side even. A hostage or 2 try to sell him out, which leave him wondering, is he going to make it out alive. Then he discovers the disturbing truth, the terrorists aren't going to release the hostages, they're going to blow them up. Now the race is on, with truly great speicial effects and make up, this movie reaches it's final showdown of good versus evil, 3 bad guys 2 bullets....How will it end?

Buy/rent the movie and find out ..........Not to be missed.

My personal opinion on this film is that it rewrote the action genre, it was and still is my all time favourite action flick and believe me I've seen a few. You can't help feeling sorry for Willis's character in this movie, as he come's across as a normal guy, just trying to save his marriage. He get's put into a really difficult situation, then his police man side takes over and he's just doing his job, and trying not to die. With a few witty one liners thrown in for good measure this really is one, if not the best action movies ever made.

I enjoyed this film thoroughly and would recommend it to anyone that likes these sort of action films if they haven't seen it already. My mother saw this film about 6 months ago and thats it.......shes hooked, leaving me without my favourite film.

Go buy it, a pizza and curl up on the sofa and enjoy this great film
