This film is one of my all time favourites, it may seem a little shallow to have Die Hard sitting amongst Kagemusha and Three Colours Blue, but it does, there!!
I went to see this film back in 1988 after being a huge Moonlighting fan, Bruce Willis could do no wrong for me, hell, I even liked Blind Date. When I came out of the theatre I instantly bought another ticket and went back in to watch again - I was THAT impressed.
The story follows Willis' John MacLane going to pick his wife up from her sky-scraper office block which is having it's christmas bash. Unbeknownst to him terrorists are about to infiltrate the building looking for stash (revealed at the end of the film). Brucie-baby manages to evade them and the rest of the film is flat-out ACTION as he single-handedly foils their plans.
Performances are excellent, especially Alan Rickman as lead terrorist Hans Gruber.
The main highpoint however are the action pieces, handled with aplomb by director John McTiernan - truly breathtaking, and also genre setting, as we have Die Hard to thank for the way that action films went.
I must now have seen this film a gazillion times and never bore of it!!
