On Christmas Eve, a New York cop comes to L.A. to see his estranged wife at her company's Christmas party, held on the top floor of a sparkling skyscraper. When terrorists capture...
more...the building, the incredulous cop is the hostages' only hope for survival.
One of the greatest action movies of the late 1980s, DIE HARD ushered in a new standard for the genre. With the dissolution of the Cold War, both the stereotypical Russian threat (represented in movies such as TOP GUN and RED DAWN) and the destructive egoist (as seen in OCTOPUSSY) became less fearful. With DIE HARD, director John McTiernan introduced Hollywood to a new type of villain: the terrorist entrepreneur. Alan Rickman stars as Hans Gruber, a relentless businessman whose lethal tactics achieve his goals. Unlike most '80s film villains who committed globally dangerous acts for liberty, genocide, or megalomania, DIE HARD's Gruber uses guns, explosives, and cunning to storm the Takagi Corporation's Christmas party and heist millions of dollars from the company. In addition, DIE HARD also saw the development of the clumsy or bad luck hero with John McClane (Bruce Willis), a man in the wrong place at the wrong time who chooses to intervene. Action fans would see this misfit hero archetype again in UNDER SIEGE (Steven Segal). Although DIE HARD contains many action movie cliches (one-liners, pyrotechnics), it also broke new ground in its genre.

This is the most exhilarating, thrill to-the-moment joyride that will have you cheering! - "trust me i'm a salesman" (hehehe)

Tough New York City cop, John McClane (Bruce Willis) travels to Los Angeles on an invitation by a powerful corporate leader to celebrate a Christmas Eve Party, where McClane's estranged wife (Bonnie something) is attending.

This was supposed to be a peaceful, joyous occasion, but before McClane could reconcile with his wife, internationally based terrorists lead by Hans Gouber (Alan Rickman, in a brilliant performance) hijack the tall skyscraper. Several hostages are killed, and the police and FBI have been called in to negotiate.

What follows is a non-stop spectacle of stunts, and explosions (along with of course Brucie baby walking around in his vest!). Hans Gouber has kept several of the patrons hostage, and he assumed that he had tied all the loose ends..................

Gouber and his mercenaries have not counted on McClane to intervene on the action! The stakes are rising though...as McClane's wife is among one of several hostages captured at this moment, dum de dum dum, dddduuuummmmmm!

If you've not seen it, I won't spoil the storyline too much for you. (but you'll understand the salesman reference soon enough!)

This film is fast and furious, and Brucies wisecracks just help it go on to being one of the most enjoyable action films I can truly say that I have NOT got bored of in the 8 years that I have owned it on Video - OK, so now I know nearly every sentence that Brucie utters, that's never a bad thing in my book!

Buy it, rent it, steal it if you have to! - Die Hard is definately a 'must watch' film.
