This is the classic Bruce Willis film. It epitomises everything about the action genre as a whole. This film has it all: terrorists, hostages, maverick cops, by-the-book men in suits who disapprove of the hero's actions, big explosions, lots of gunshots and plenty for every hot-blooded male between the ages of 18 and 45. I am yet to find one guy who does not at least like this film.
Having said that, I'm still yet to find one girl who at least likes this film. It's not exactly sunday afternoon family viewing or something to watch with that girl you like. This film is much more of a '10 guys, 50 beers, surround sound and widescreen HD' kind of film. Which is fine by me.
Bruce Willis plays the main character, John McClane, who is visiting his wife on Christmas at her new job. Sadly, all does not go to plan when German terrorists, led by Alan RIckman, take over the building and everyone inside is taken hostage. Luckily, and predictably, McClane was in the toilet at the time and so (shock horror!) he takes it upon himself to make everything a little bit harder for the terrorists. I won't go into more detail, but suffice to say there's no shortage of gunshots and big a** explosions.
This is an excellent film, worth at least one viewing by any guy, and two or three by most. You will find yourself slipping into the same kind of pattern as Joey and Chandler from Friends, who constantly shout 'DIEHARD!' and feel the urge to watch it again and again. I think I'll go and join them.

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" in the top right of the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.

Could do with a bit more information about what the special edition actually contains. I wonder how many women you've offended by saying that they don't like watching the film? seeing as it's one of my favourites too? :-) emily
