Advantages: A really fun action movie. Disadvantages: Absolutely no plot or characterisation.
...those who are about to die with a grey filter. His editing is sharp and keeps the many chase sequences snappy and the big set-pieces reasonably tense.
This film is all about the stunts. In most movies, a moment where a car takes down a helicopter would be the big finale. But not here - the director has way more tricks up his sleeve, with each stunt sequence bigger and more eye-boggling than the last. There are huge flaming balls of death, free-running ... ...that may remind you of the first "Die Hard" and one sequence with a plane that will have you gawping in disbelief. The rate at which the action scenes pile up one after the other will take your breath away. We're barely two minutes in before the first explosion. This breathless pace is what keeps you glued to the screen for the entire hundred and twenty-nine minutes. This is old-school action movie making - there is a seemingly unending supply of ...

Advantages: Insane action sequences, better 'Die Hard' feel compared to theactrical version Disadvantages: Weak bad guy, not as gritty as previous Die Hard's despite this more explicit version
...action sequences you'll ever see, Die Hard 4.0 did not disappoint as far as entertainment is concerned, and this "Ultimate Action Edition" does give it more of a Die Hard feel with John McClane now at his usual foul-mouthed moody self, whereas in the Theatrical release McClane's inability to utter an F-word annoyingly softend his persona. The main villain, played by Olyphant, was a disappointment though and wasn't ruthless or evil enough as he could ... ...movie compared to the previous three films - even with the added CGI blood and more F-bombs being dropped. So in my opinion, it does come across as the weakest of the Die Hard series, but still one of the best action flicks in recent years. Definitely a must see! ...

Advantages: Familiar actors, good effects and a sound plot Disadvantages: Some overenthusiastic stunts
...at the continuation of the Die Hard Series I hesitantly went to watch the latest addition to the previously action packed blockbusters. Turns out I eased into the movie quite quickly and within 25 minutes any and all worries were long gone. The story revolves around our favorite John McClane played by Bruce Willis in a high tech attempt to instigate national panic throughout the US through the use of cyber hacking. Without giving too much away i ... ...US back from the brink of total chaos. As action packed as always, Live free or Die Hard seems to be a grand addition to the Die Hard Series. Advantages: Pure action, absurd but brilliant stunts Disadvantages: Stupid plot
...fourth installment in the action-packed Die Hard trilogy (erm...) and you know what you're getting.
Our hero, John McClane (Bruce Willis), is back and balder than ever. We know from the off that he's going to defeat the bad guys, throw in a few well-intentioned wisecracks and walk out the same way he came in - weathered, bitter and strangely likeable.
What we didn't know is that his daughter Lucy is now pretty stunning (Mary Elizabeth Winstead ... ...but the first two Die Hard films, and to a lesser extent the third, were immensely popular because they gave the action genre a shot in the arm. The stunts and the cinematography were fantastic then and they are again this time around.
One scene involving a car and a helicopter is absurd. But it's brilliant. Another involving a second car and a lift shaft is too exciting for words. So I'm not going to try.
John McClane and Bruce Willis are one ...

Advantages: Action film with better graphics , scenes and laughs than the previous three . Disadvantages: The older Bruce Willis ( it could be the last Die Hard ) .
...DieHard4.0 ,
This DVD sparked my intereested as i have the other diehards and was wondering what happened 12 years after DieHard 3 . Well , I was impressed , the graphics where obviously better and the stunts where obviously going to be cooler but what else does this older John McClane have to offer . Well he did it well , the plot worked and the scenes amazing . The Basis of the story is John McClane ( Bruce Willis ) is sent to bring a young , long haired geek from one city to another . The plot the thickens into a car chasing , world exploding film which is set aside from the rest . All action films could take a leaf out of this film because it was outstanding . There was one thing which got to me . How can you jump out of car , when the cars going that fast it can knock down a Helicopter ? But it's an action film anything can...

Advantages: explosions Disadvantages: Been done before
...Diehard4.0 where our yipeecayay hero takes on new terrorists, in the form of cyber terrorists this time. But as usual they employ decoy tactics on the local police force by committing heists that keep the cops on their toes. They are hell bent on breaking into the FBI servers to steal kazillions of money and the one unbeknown witness is a teenage geek kid who stays up at night hacking into systems for the thrill of it. The terrorists have asked him to hack into system as a bet and he achieves this not knowing he has given full access to the bad guys. Not until John Mclean shows up at his house as well as terrorists and thats when the action starts.
Overall this has been done before in the form of firewall and numerous other films. Uninspiring in my opinion....

Advantages: Good storyline, effects, ending. Disadvantages: Hard to understand for a bit.
...I must say im a very big fan of 1,2,3 and 4.0 was not what i expected. I though it was going to be along the lines of, John been somewhere on a social agenda, then getting caught up a battle to save other peoples lives including his wife Holly. 4.0 has a very good storyline however it does make you till around half the film to understand whats going on. I did enjoy the storyline about the virtual terrorism as who knows, that could be the case one day in our lives. A couple of bits that really did impress me was at the end John shot himself through the upper skin just past his shoulder to shot the guy behind him. Johns technology knowledge is very low, and if you look back at the other films Holly is always telling him "Its the 90's" basically saying 'get with the time - technology'. Matthew Farrel, the computer hacker is absolutley...

DVD Description
After a twelve-year hiatus, Bruce Willis is back as New York City detective John McClane, who still plays by his own set of rules. Following DIE HARD (1988), DIE HARD 2 (1990), and DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE (1995), the fourth instalment in the popular action series stars DEADWOOD's Timothy Olyphant as Thomas Gabriel, an evil mastermind who is determined to bring down the entire infrastructure of the United States on Independence Day, sending the country into anarchy and chaos. Joining him on his mission of destruction is the elegant Mai, played by Maggie Q from MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III. McClane becomes involved when he gets caught in the crossfire while transporting prisoner Matt Farrell (Justin Long, IDIOCRACY), a hacker extraordinaire who is the perfect complement to the old-school McClane, who eschews mobile phones, computers, and doing anything the easy way. But when Gabriel kidnaps McClane's daughter, Lucy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, DEATH PROOF), it gets personal. Full of the sarcastic humour, exciting action sequences--including a car flying into a helicopter--and fun characters that have defined the series, DIE HARD 4.0 is an excellent addition, directed by Len Wiseman (UNDERWORLD). The movie also features Kevin Smith as a computer geek known as Warlock, who still lives in his mother's basement.
