Di Que Si (Subtitled)

Advantages: It's a most beautiful film

...Il film è diviso idealmente in due fasi: sullo sfondo di un Italia fascista, Guido, libraio toscano conquista e sposa Dora maestrina elementare; colori più tenui e invenzioni slapstick che fanno molto pensare a Chaplin, con momenti di dolce romanticismo coronano la parte "comica" del film. La seconda parte: in un lager nazista, Guido col figlio di sei anni, Giosuè, vengono arrestati perché ebrei. Dora, che non è ebrea, li segue sul treno dei deportati. Guido riesce a sdrammatizzare la tragica situazione facendo credere all'ingenuo bambino che in realtà si tratti di un grande gioco, il cui primo premio è un carrarmato autentico. Non c'è da aver paura quindi, tutto è finzione, fa parte del gioco. Il bambino passa le giornate nascosto nella baracca sotto i letti di legno, mentre il padre è ai lavori forzati, e mentre Dora è con le altre... Read review

Advantages: Interprétation réussie et remarquable, mise en scène féérique, magique, originale et rigoureuse
Disadvantages: -

...; même si tragique- demeure très belle, bouleversante, palpitante, saisissante. On parlera de l’amour éternel, durable, inscrit dans la mort : je revois encore cette scène finale des deux amants, l’un en larmes, l’autre ancré dans le sommeil éternel, et j’imagine ces deux êtres réunis à tout jamais dans le secret de l’amour, dans la possession exclusive de leur âme , dans le prolongement de l’amour dans lequel le désir cupide que deux êtres éprouvent l’un pour l’autre fait place à une unité éternelle, à une aspiration intérieure commune, celle d’un idéal, d’une transcendance par delà la mort … J’ai été pris par ce film tout en féerie , un film magique qui m’a fait penser à Amelie Poulain, de par son coté spectaculaire et merveilleux, sa magnificence dans les décors... Advantages: Moving. Set in beautiful Italy, it prompted me to learn Italian and visit the country.

...La Vita E Bella. This is an Italian movie with English subtitles. But don't let that put you off! In the beginning of the movie, the characters do have "beautiful lives," and as the story continues the beauty lies in the preservation of innocence against all odds. When the characters find themselves in dire circumstances, the viewer is spared unnecessary graphic imagery. Rather than horrific scenes, their difficulties are presented to the viewer as a contrast to the life and freedom the characters previously experienced. This movie is many things. It cannot be restricted to one theme. Above all it is very poignant, but at the same time it can be described as a romantic comedy!
