Spoilers will be included if you haven't seen the first or second season.
Imagine all the stupid storylines they come up with in soaps. For example, man buried under the patio, well Desperate Housewives manages to incorporate stupid storylines like that, change them, and in the end come up with an old woman who kept her husband in the freezer, just so she could be close to him.
Created by Marc Cherry, Desperate Housewives is set in the fictional town of Fairview on a street called Wisteria Lane.
Catching Up
The first episode ever, shows Mary Alice Young killing herself, leaving behind her son and husband. The show then develops, and is narrated by Mary Alice Young as she looks at her friends/neighbours and shows that you never know what goes on behind closed doors. The show continues and is now in it's fourth season.

If you liked…
If you were a fan of Sex & The City, you will love Desperate Housewives. Instead of them just sitting about talking about fashion or shoes, you actually get into the nitty gritty stuff, including sex, lies and even murder.
Anyone could act this script and still make it funny. In my opinion the script is the best bit of the show. You do feel like they're going to go somewhere at the end of each storyline, unlike Lost where the script writers just made things up for two years whilst trying to work out the ending.
The script is just fantastic, I think if I ever moved to the 'burbs, that's what I would expect. Normal looking people, but with men in their freezers.
Humour
The one thing you can't say about Desperate Housewives is that it's not funny… I can sit for hours just watching re-runs of the show and still be in stiches each time. Especially with Susan. Teri Hatcher has done a great thing, and taken Marc Cherry's idea of Susan being a bit klutz and embraced it, making Susan one of the funniest characters to watch in the show.
Season 1
Aired: October 3rd 2004
Season 1 was pretty light. It started off quite dark with the likes of Mary Alice killing herself, but from the pilot you really felt like the show was going to go somewhere and each episode had a new storyline, a new twist and of course, something else incredibly stupid. It introduces the four central characters of the show, Susan Myer, Lynette Scavo, Bree Van de Kamp & Gabrielle Solis and their families on Wisteria Lane. Lynette struggles to control her herd of children and Susan and her neighbour Edie Britt fight for the new neighbour Mike Delfino's affection.
Season 2
Aired: September 25th 2005
Season 2 is pretty much the boring one of the three. Quite unmemorable in my opinion, but still fun to watch. After Rex's death, Bree seems to be fine. She struggles with the likes of his mother coming into town, but doesn't show any emotion for his death. The police question her when they find out his death was a little bit questionable. Mike & Susan's relationship progresses, but ultimately ends in a cliff hanger.
Season 3
Aired: September 24th 2006
This season is pretty darker than the previous two. 6 months after getting hit by a car, Mike is still in a coma with Susan at his side. He wakes up later on only to have no memory of her, or his previous life. Including his bad past. Bree marries Orson Hodge, whose past may not be as clear as Bree thinks it is. Gabrielle goes through a rough divorce and Edie makes her move on Mike who now has amnesia.

Marc Cherry
The director Marc Cherry got the idea of Desperate Housewives from watching a news report on Andrea Yates (some woman who drowned her 5 children). Before DH he was best known for writing/producing The Golden Girls and it's successor The Golden Palace.
Initially he couldn't get anyone to buy his new TV series. ABC however took it up, but didn't like the name of the show. They tried 'Wisteria Lane' and 'The Secret Lives Of Housewives' but eventually stuck with DH.
The Set
It's located on 'The Universal Studios Hollywood' back lot. It's referred to as 'Colonial Street' and actually has been used for many motion pictures and TV shows. The likes of: 'The Burbs', 'Deep Impact', 'Psycho', 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' and even 'Ghost Whisperer'.
Eye Candy (4 women)
Mike Delfino John Rowland. Andrew Van De Camp
Eye Candy (4 men
Not sure what the men like, so all of the female cast maybe.
Future
Rumours are going around that the show will run until 2011. Cherry has apparently signed an 8 year pact with ABC. Cherry also would love to do a musical episode of DH, following the success of Buffy The Vampire's Slayer's episode 'Once More With Feeling'. Can't really see that myself, but I would have said the same with Buffy.
Special Features Of Season 3's DVD
"Here Comes The Bridge"- A Behind The Scene's look at the season three finale. "Amas De Casa Desesperadas"- Meet the women of desperate housewives. "Cherry Picked"- Creator Marc Cherry's favourite scenes. Unaired Storylines Deleted Scenes Bloopers/Outtakes.
The interview with the women of Desperate Housewives is great, it really shows you how much they enjoy the show and that they actually do get along in real life. The blooper/outtakes and deleted scenes are great as usual, the bloopers had me in stitches. I haven't got around to watching the 'Unaired Storyline' or 'Cherry Picked' but have been told they're great.
Anything Else
This DVD is a fantastic addition to the show. It's got enough extra's on it, to make you think it's actually worth buying the DVD, unlike some that come with no extra's at all.
It's a funny drama/comedy and is well worth watching.
It'll be starting it's fourth season on channel 4 soon.
Hope you enjoyed my review.
Kirsty.
