This season began in the US on September 24th 2006 and finished on May 20th 2007. It really is all change this year for the ladies in terms of the significant others in their lives.
Each season up until now has involved a major story line that usually lasts the whole season and this year is no different. The main story revolves around Bree?s (Marcia Cross) new husband, Orson Hodge. He is played by Kyle MacLachlan from Twin Peaks and Sex and The City fame. I think Orson is a great new character, slightly a bit of a drip (I guess you would have to be as Bree definitely wears the pants in that household) and a bit mysterious as well. It is this mysterious streak that is played out during the full season. At the end of season two we saw Orson run over Mike but we don?t know why. Slowly, the story starts to unravel and includes various players as his ex-wife, his mother and his mistress!
Mike is still in a coma after being run over by the aforementioned Orson. Susan (Teri Hatcher) is Mike?s girlfriend at this point and she visits him everyday in the hospital. She is still great in this season and as comical and clumsy as ever. It?s during her daily hospital visits that Susan meets Ian. He is in a similar situation to Susan as his wife is in a coma too but unfortunately she dies. Ian and Susan get closer and eventually become a couple. During this time though Mike wakes up but has amnesia and no recognition of his relationship with Susan. This is Edie?s cue to get her mitts in Mike as she ahs been after him for ever. She pretends to him that she and Mike are a couple and that Susan treats him horribly. So, by the end of the season who will be together and who will not?
Gabi (Eva Longoria) and Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) have now broken up and are divorced. I have always liked the relationship between the two of them. Although they bicker and fight I think they do have actual real love for each other and this is still evident to see later on in the season. During the course of the series Gaby meets Victor, an older guy who is quite taken with her and on course to become the towns major. Upon hearing this Gaby sees dollar signs and thinks she could see her self being a politicians wife with all the power and glory that comes with it. What she doesn?t know, but finds out later, is that he only marries Gaby in order to secure the minority vote in town.
Carlos then begins a relationship with Edie but she realises his heart is not truly in it. In the final scene of the series Edie writes a letter to Carlos and then we see her hang herself with a scarf. Will she live or die, that is the question we take into the 4th series.
Lynette and Tom are still struggling with kids, their relationship, work issues etc. This series they buy a pizza place and they struggle to make it work at first. They hire a new sexy manager called Rick but Lynette and Rick get a bit too close for comfort and it definitely causes tensions between the husband and wife. On top of that, Tom finds out he has a secret love child from a relationship he had before he married Lynette and having this little girl also join the family is a big stress. Later on we find out that Lynette has lymphoma and see that her family really begins to rally around her.
I liked this third series and felt it captured some of the magic of the first season. The intertwining between the characters was great and you really see them moving in new directions which is good. The plot line in this show is quite suspenseful and at times I don?t really think you can predict what is going to happen next which is really what you want from a mystery/drama.
You can buy the Season 3 box set at Amazon now for about £30, new. It was released in November 2007 and features 6 discs.

...buried under the patio, well Desperate Housewives manages to incorporate stupid storylines like that, change them, and in the end come up with an old woman who kept her husband in the freezer, just so she could be close to him.
