Well, I have to say I didn't like the second series as much. The first season, in my opinion had such a great storyline and I don't think the second season lived up to that.

The second season began at the end of 2005. We still have all the same characters but a new resident moves in during the middle of the night, who is she and what secrets does she hold? The new resident is called Betty Applewhite and she is pleasant enough but has a few secrets lurking in her basement. This was the main story running through the whole season. I'm not sure what I didn't particularly like about this story, maybe I didn't warm to the character or maybe I thought the story was a little bit too unbelievable but it just was not as good as the first season. I don't think they really explored the characters as much as they could and the usual flashbacks they do with the other characters did not seem to be there or in as much detailed as with others. I don't really think this story came to a great big conclusion like the other one did. To me it just sort of tailed off and ended and that was it. Betty never really gelled with the other women either and I think their interaction is the most important part of the show so to not have that in this story line it seemed somewhat removed from the main body of the show.

Like I said all the other women focus prominently in this season.

Edie (Nicolette Sheridan) has a bigger role this season. I think she was such a hit in the first season that they had to expand her role. She is the women everyone loves to hate but for some reason I think some women would like to be like her and to be able to wear the hot pants and mini tops she can get away with! In this season she definitely lives up to her man eater/man stealer persona by getting together with one of the other women's ex-husbands!

Bree's halo seems to be slipping this season. Rex, her husband from the first series ahs passed away and this season follows her decline into alcohol. She manages to keep this from her friends, for a while anyway and even though alcoholism is not a laughing matter there are some funny scenes portraying this. Her relationship with her son, Andrew also suffers and comes to a dramatic point in this season too.

Gabrielle is still looking stunning and driving around in her amazing Aston Martin! After her affair with the gardener she decides to reconnect with Carlos and they think about having children together. I love the storylines when they include the men, as they seem to do more in this season because their suffering at the hands of their women and often their downtrodden attitude is very funny to watch.

The best example of this is probably in the relationship between Tom and Lynette. In the first season we saw that Lynette was not entirely enjoying staying home with her unruly kids. In this season she gets the opportunity to go back to her job in advertising. She used to be an advertising star and gets right back into the swing of things. Lynette is quite controlling anyway and definitely wears the trousers (or pants as Americans would say) in her household so when she becomes Tom's boss he is feeling even more downbeat than usual!

The show follows the same format by having the deceased Mary Alice doing the voice over's. Even though I didn't like the main story as much the show is still clever, very funny and a dark comedy and the friendships and interactions by the leads are still as great as ever.

You can buy the Season 2 box set at Amazon now for under £20, new. It was released in November 2006 and features 7 discs. There are quite a few additions on the DVD and these include but are not limited to deleted scenes, unaired storylines and featurettes.
