Advantages: well choreographed, good shootouts Disadvantages: A little over the top at times, doesn't have the charm of its predecessor
Back in 1992, revolutionary new filmmaker Robert Rodriguez made Mexican action bonanza, “El Mariachi”. What made this film debut by Rodriguez special was that not only did he write, direct, edit and operate the camera, but it also cost a very meager $7,000 to make. Although it only grossed a seemingly pathetic $2,000,000 in the USA, compared to its budget, that’s quite a handsome profit. The story of Rodriguez’s pulp western trilogy starts here with ... ...for a man who walks the streets with a guitar case full of guns. He falls in love with a woman named Domino who is subsequently killed by the local crime boss. The story continues with the bigger and arguably better sequel “Desperado”, replacing original Mariachi Carlos Gallardo with Antonio Banderas and having a slightly more impressive but still a low budget for modern cinema.
The story of “Desperado” sees El Mariachi travelling from bar to bar, ...

Advantages: dubbed as the "mexican pulp fiction" Disadvantages: thin storyline and lack of character history
...Cast : In desperado Antonio Banderas plays the Mariachi,, this is an excellent piece of casting as Banderas is superb, his ability to show sadness and anger counteracts brilliantly his more charming and humorous side ( reminiscent to zoro ), This portrays the character beautifully as he is not a natural killer and audiences can associate more with his history and purpose. Playing the girlfriend is Salma Hayek who was brought to the attention of the ... ...line does not require great depth and as a result will appeal to most audiences.
Desperado is available at around the £10 range however I would suggest getting the box set of El Mariachi, Desperado and Once upon a time in Mexico to fully appreciate what Rodriguez has achieved. ...

Desperado is a modern day western set in small town mexico. It is the middle film of the Robert Rodriguez 'El Mariachi' trilogy. Sandwiched nicely between 'El Mariachi' and 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico', Desperado is also perfectly at home as a stand alone movie. Saying that, however, you will get a deeper understanding of the main characters motivatons if you see the first film.
In Desperado, El Mariachi is played by the exceptionally ... ...He is searching for the men responsible for the murder of the woman he loved. The same men who shot his hand making it almost impossible for him to play his beloved guitar. His friend (played by Steve Buscemi), is always sent on ahead to scout out the local bars and casually drop the name 'Bucho' into conversations. El Mariachi believes Bucho (Joaquim de Almeida) to be the head of the gang he is fighting against. The friend spreads the story of 'The ...

DVD Description
With DESPERADO, director Robert Rodriguez presents the sequel to his 1992 low-budget action flick, EL MARIACHI. This film continues the story of the brooding no-name Mariachi (Antonio Banderas), whose guitar case is stocked with high-powered weaponry. The musician is in a sleepy Mexican town seeking revenge against the much-feared, ruthless Bucho (Joaquim de Almeida), a drug dealer who once shot El Mariachi in his strumming hand and killed his girlfriend. When Bucho hears that the guitarist is looking for him, he sends his men out to forestall the attack--which leads to many well-choreographed and bloody shootouts. The high-octane, fight-filled film also stars Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin and Steve Buscemi.
