Dempsey and Makepeace: The Complete Series Boxset DVD

Advantages: Great performances from Michael Brandon and Glynis Barber
Disadvantages: Is quite dated now

...Just months after the release of the first series of this classic 1980's crime action-drama series on DVD, season 2 has thankfully followed hot on its trail. Series 2 of Dempsey And Makepeace went to air on ITV in a prime time slot in late 1985, several months after it had been initially filmed ( the second series was being shot during the time that the first series was being aired in early 1985). Series 2 infinitely holds more depth than series 1 (which is not too neccecarily say is any better but at least is certainly just as good) with more structure to the development of the two main characters, the brash, thuggish James Dempsey and aristocratic Harriet Makepeace (who wouldn't have looked out of place in a James Bond film). Advantages: It's exciting and addictive!
Disadvantages: Can get a bit confusing sometimes

...in all its a fascinating show which soon becomes addictive! My favourite episode from this boxset is probably 'Maternity Leave', it focuses on Claire and shows what happens when she was kidnapped by one of 'the others' in Series 1. I love the design of the boxset itself, I prefer the design on this one to the Series 1 boxset. The 4 DVD cases also have different pictures of the characters, and the discs are nicely designed. It's the kind of show that if you miss one episode then you will be completely 'Lost'. Thats why it is good to have the boxset! The extras on the DVDs are also very good, there are lengthy featurettes, deleted scenes, bloopes and commentaries. However I found the menu for the extras quite confusing and complicated...just like the show!! This boxset is a must have for all avid fans!... Read review

...I purchased the complete Blackadder collection for £35 at HMV and it was certainly money well spent. I think the acting and humour is top notch and it features 4 of televisions greatest actors of all time "Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson). very wry and witty this is a great box set to buy if you want some top quality BBC made entertainment. However, the entire 4 series only adds up to 14 hours,so i feel that the box set should be a little cheaper as you can buy the entire Jeeves and Wooster collection on the Play.com website for £25 and that amounts to around 18 hours and over 20 episodes. On the whole i was immensely pleased with the product.
