Decoys 2 is a 2007 film directed by Jeffrey Lando (never heard of him). It is a straight to DVD sequel to a not so well known film and I really wasn't expecting a lot from it. Especially after reading the blurb which gives the gist that sexy female aliens are going about seducing men so they can lay their eggs. This sounded like one of those really trashy films that's all about getting as many sex scenes into a film as possible with a very weak story line pulling them together. I hadn't seen the first film and I was expecting to just take a quick look at this film and watching something else but I was pleasantly surprised as it was quite good.
The film starts and two teenagers are kissing in the back of the car as they start to undress the girl's stomach bursts open and all these tentacles jump out and down the guy's throat. Then we meet Shrew guy as he will become known, he is in a biology class and is being introduced to his new substitute teacher Luke Callahan (This guy
is from the original). Shrew guy has three roommates, Floppy cool guy, Silent Guy and Daphne Guy (as he looks like Daphne from Scooby-Doo). They all decide upon a competition where they are to try and get laid with as many girls as possible. For the competition to be fair they have to video on their phones. They are also joined in this by an overly-confident and funny Arnie Steiner.
Callahan is seeing a psychiatrist about the whole Decoys incidence and she clearly thinks he's mad. The Decoys are going about seducing men. They have to seduce the men slowly and get them in the mood. If they work to fast on them the guys will freeze. They are from a snowy world and cold is part of their nature and their main weakness is heat. They are meant to have no belly button but I did notice one instance where the Decoy did have a belly button. If you look them in the eyes they have the power to hypnotize and read your mind turning into your fantasy woman. Kim Poirer is one of the Decoys and was in the original as well.
The story goes on and the guys start to catch on something is wrong when people go missing and the weird video footage they have when Arnie disappears and they soon meet Callahan and his secret.
The film had a good ending, the calibre of the ending affects the over all quality of the film I think and this film had a good ending
This film was quite good. I liked it. It was sort of like a teen comedy with a sci-fi twist. It was quite funny and all the characters were quite likable except for Callahan but I suppose they needed him sort of. It's one of those film that has heaps of sexy women which made the film all the more watchable. The acting wasn't all alright no complaints there and the directing held up well also. Tobin Bell who plays Jigsaw in the Saw series plays the professor and I really liked him he is a cool guy and should be in more films in a lead role. The special effects weren't great, when you actually saw what a decoy really looked like it wasn't that impressive and the tentacle bits were all done with CGI and I'm not a big CGI fan but it wasn't overly done. The scenes where the decoys were being killed and sort of exploded on the other hand weren't that bad. The music in this film was class, I loved the main track that sounded sort of like Dick Dale (sort of) and the music at the parties was actually pretty good as well.
I can't say much concerning any deviations from the original but looking about on the internet for info on this film it seems to be quite a well received sequel. It can be taken as a film in itself, I enjoyed in as much. Callahan in a session with his psychiatrist fills us in on what we need to know from the original with flash back clips of it.
I would recommend it. It's not the greatest film ever but there's nothing really wrong with it, it just sort of scrapes 4 stars in my book.
DVD extras
The only DVD extras were a bunch of trailers for films.
I have no idea how much I paid for this film, I can't really remember buying it I think I may have bought as a bundle. It's selling from £5.97 on Amazon and I think that's a bit too much to be honest I definitely never paid that.
This film is 15, unlike what you'd expect it's not a sexually graphic film. It does have a few cases of mild nudity and some bad language but that's the limit. I just noticed that if you image search Decoys 2 on google you get the only two scenes of toplessness in the film and they're both brief. (Several people will be googling that I'd imagine)
Punch
I'd punch that Luke Callahan freak, partially because he's played by someone called Corey and that's not a real name.

I know you're from Banbridge and thus know no shame, but still, you realise you've just confessed to fancying aliens, yes? xx

The bit about female aliens trying to find males to lay their eggs reminded me of the dire oh-why-did-I-watch-this?! Species. Didn't that have a similar thread?
