DVD Description
Thomas Mann's novel DEATH IN VENICE describes the moral and physical degeneration of Aschenbach, the writer whose obsessive and self-devouring pursuit of beauty in the form of a boy leads him to humiliation and death. Benjamin Britten's opera adaptation serves as an apocalyptic manifestation of the composer's vision. Robert Tear and Alan Opie star in this 1989 Glyndebourne production, accompanied by the London Sinfonietta under the baton of conductor Graeme Jenkins.
Advantages: A gripping stylish thriller Disadvantages: None
...as any reasonably minded person will be a bit disturbed by one of the taboo subjects featured.
Special Features:
Trailer - This overly long trailer gives far too much away about the movie, but in viewing it it does prepare you for the slightly hairier Lazenby that most of us are familiar with.
Death In Venice - An Interview With Aldo Lado - This very short 11 minute feature is actually very interesting. Lado's work although highly acclaimed seemed to stay clear of publicity unlike many of his rival directors I.e. Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, Mario Bava. This feature tells you more than 100 interviews with Argento does. Aldo talks about his movies, in particular his collaboration of Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango In Paris, and how if Brando had not delayed the movie to film The Godfather, Who Saw Her Die? Would never have been made...

Advantages: It wastes an hours and a half, good acting by Donald Disadvantages: Venice looked awful, didn't spook or scare me
...**I’m still waiting for Ciao to add the category for this so am posting it here for now and shall move it later, hence it not being just a film op but a DVD op too **
I blame my mum for this op as I wouldn’t have wondered back into HMV and bought this DVD if it was for her. This is one of them films that creeped my mum out back in the day, so I have bought it to see if it had the same effect on me. We shall see. Here’s my op (Dedicated to my lovely mummy) on, ‘Don’t Look Now’, Mel xx

Advantages: Value for money, the amount of extras, great music Disadvantages: none that I can think of
...); Astronomy Domine (Abbey Road); This Heaven (AOL sessions); BBC Mermaid Theatre concert (Castellorizon, On An Island, The Blue, Take A Breath, High Hopes); Making of On an Island documentary; West Coast tour documentary; music videos (On An Island & Smile), Island Jam 2007; a photo gallery.
The tour documentary "Breaking Bread, Drinking Wine" is a great addition. The tour took in some magnificent venues, including St Marks Square in Venice. It also includes film of David's first performance after the death of Pink Floyd founder member Syd Barrett. In it he performs one of Syd's solo songs "Dark Globe" from the album The Madcap Laughs, as a tribute. Very moving to view as David is close to tears as he talks about his friend.
I have found a couple of easter eggs. An acoustic version of "Echoes" which plays after the Dark Globe track...
