Deadlier Than The Male / Some Girls Do (Bulldog Drummond Double Bill)

...Frasier is fuming after Bulldog is made a hero for supposedly fending off a gunman when he had accidently spilled coffee on him and, shielded himself behind a pregnant Roz. Frasier says he must get Bulldog to admit what happened easier said than done and when Bulldog is awarded the Sea Bee's Man Of The Year award for his apparent bravery, Frasier puts together a selection of influential figures from Bulldogs past to drag the truth out. Niles is also in attendance as he's nominated for an award but is forced to attend the less glamourous awards, being the only person dressed in a tuxedo, he is mistaken for a waiter! All this makes for a fun episode. In the end Martin saves the day by setting up Bulldog and revealing to everyone just what a coward he is. you also see bulldogs mother in her only appearance, as she dishes out some punishment... Advantages: The team are back. Longer episodes, just as action packed.
Disadvantages: A female! Not as many episodes.

...So Ross Kemp and his team are back. Well back for about 10 minutes. So maybe it should be Ross Kemp and his new team of Elite fighting machines! Again the team get involved in a variety fights both home and aboard. This time round we have a female member of the troop! A bit of stretch seen as I don't think there are any combat ready females in the 22nd Regiment. Again the action sequences, stunts and special effects are spectacular and well woven into each story line. Each episode is longer in length but this time round there are not as many episodes to enjoy. Again I enjoyed the entire series and felt disappointed to learn that there won't be a fourth series. ...Pauline Collins) everything was based on fact. It would be easy to dismiss this as a "woman's" film but to do so would demean the horrors that these women faced. Was theirs any less a trial or any less cruel than the treatment of male prisoners held captive by the same invader? This story need to be told and honoured as much as "Bridge on the River Kwai" so that it becomes a part of history, and its suffering heroines are accorded the respect for their musical defiance. The beautiful score to this movie is from the original transcriptions, as in 1980, Antoinette Colijn (one of the survivors) found a handwritten copy of her vocal scores from the camp days, and donated them to Stanford University. A music archivist there was impressed and suggested a recording. With Helen's participation, a Bay Area woman's chorus learned the music and gave... Read review
