This is a review of 'Dead Like Me' Season 1 Box Set.
'Dead Like Me' is a Dark comedy with the main character being Georgia Lass also known as George.
George is a young 18 year old woman who drops out of college and with nothing to do sulks around and lies in bed all day until her mother has enough and tells her to get a job or else !
She manages to get a job in an office with a firm called 'Happy Times' On her first day she goes outside for her lunch break and unfortunately is the victim of a freak accident when she is struck down dead by a toilet seat falling from the MIR space station !
Immediately Georges soul leaves her body and is standing alone in shock and disbelief at what has happened when she is approached by Rube who explains everything..
Rube explains he is one of the undead and is the leader of a group of reapers and that she too is now one of them. He takes her to a diner where she meets the rest of the group... Roxy, Betty and Mason.
The mission of the reapers is to collect the souls of the recently departed and guide them on their way and the diner is the meeting place where Rube assigns them to their job by way of Name, Place and ETD ( estmated time of death).
Aside all this they get along as they did when they were alive, They can be seen by the living but look a little different so as not to be recognised they eat, drink, sleep and have to find a place to stay and find a job to get by.
Each episode has it's own story and is intertwined by the lives of the characters before and after death. And again with each episode the characters grow on you as you get to know them.
Sometimes a little sad and despairing ..but then they are the undead... Good storylines with some swearing but bearable,. I found it quirky, eccentric and darkly funny at times with some good stories and good acting from little known actors who played their parts well.
You will either love it or hate it according to other reviews, I liked it and will be buying the second season box set.
