New York City's Emergency Medical Services, a loser who is nevertheless a compulsive rescuer of people in danger. When the Holland Tunnel is sealed off after a fiery explosion and car passengers are trapped within, he goes inside and leads a group of survivors (a mixed group allegorically representing America's diversity) through all manner of pestilence toward safety. Directed by the imaginative Rob Cohen (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story),Daylightfinds Stallone outrageously (and to almost campy effect) pushing the envelope of his martyr persona to near-religious levels. He throws himself, quite literally, into this part and between that entertainment factor and the unnervingly convincing effects, this is a pretty watchable film.--Tom Keogh

Released in late 1996 this all action disaster movie concentrated most of its efforts on the survival of a handful of people trapped underground.
**BRIEF PLOT**
With a fleeing gang of jewel thieves and a couple of trucks filled with some dodgy chemical on the way to be illegally dumped it is not long before the two meet in the middle of a New Jersey tunnel, leading to one hell of a nightmare for everyone driving through the tunnel at the time.
With many exploding vehicles the tunnel begins to collapse and it is not long before both ends are blocked off , leaving several people still alive but trapped in the middle, fearing for their lives as the tunnel walls begin to show signs of weakening further.
Unfortunately for the survivors the air in the tunnel is soon becoming more poisonous, what with the Carbon monoxide levels rising and fires burning wildly along the tunnel, the rescue team have no option but to send in someone to try to stop the poisonous fumes from killing them all.
Enter the ever so ready action hero and godsend Kit Latura, (played by Sylvester Stallone), a rescue expert with many years experience.
His plan is to reach the survivors, via the labyrinth of service tunnels and bring them all out safely……
**IN CONCLUSION**
It is not a bad movie, having plenty of action and a bit of suspense, as you watch the people in the tunnel try to survive long enough to see daylight again.
The opening scenes, with the police chase and the lorry loads of toxic chemicals, the movie gets straight to the point, with the simplicity of how certain events can cause so much disaster.

It is the type of movie which sees a group of strangers become united in danger and work as a tem to reach there goal, watching how the rich, the poor, the young and the old join forces and become one, watching as the group deal with one life threatening problem only to stumble across another.
The story line was well written, if a little slow in parts as the audience is introduced briefly to the tunnel dwelling characters. Stallone plays his usual style as the action hero with attitude and a skill of surviving what would normally kill any mere mortal.
The movie has everything a good movie requires to keep the audience entertained, it has the action, the drama, the standard car chase, together with some great explosions and cracking stunts. What more can you get in an entertaining movie.
Would I recommend it…? I would have to say yes. It is worth watching at least once even if you think Stallone is a bit of a dodgy actor. The story is well written, if not original, and the action can be gripping in parts.
Advantages: good action movie Disadvantages: some sad bits
This is a great film starring Sylvester Stallone, it is an all round action disaster movie. The plot, in a tunnel in America where there are many people going under the sea to travel from New York to work etc. Then some joy riders steal a car and go through the tunnel the ovious happens, they crash. A massive ball of fire goes spinning down the tunnel killing nearly everyone inside. It also makes rocks at each end of the tunnel fall in and trap anyone ...

Advantages: Great action, special effects and acting Disadvantages: none
This is a disaster movie like you have never seen before. The special effects are incredible and depict a massive explosion in a tunnel sealing both ends but leaving survivors trapped and suffocating slowly due to toxic fumes. Stallones goes down to help them to get out. The great thing about this movie is how one thing happens straight after another so its pace carries you along for the ride. It develops the characters perfectly so you can sense ...

Advantages: Disaster movie for the nineties Disadvantages: Nowt new and predictable
Yes.This film did deserve to see the light of day. It is another of those films which is fun to watch but has no deep meaning and anything else. This is one of few Action movies in which Guns aren't a major part of the thrills(Which makes a change). Stallone is a rescue guy(Ala Cliffhanger) who isn't working at the moment(Ala Cliffhanger). He has to step in to save a load of people who are trapped in a flooding tunnel(Ala Cliffhanger. Well sort of). ... ...enough. It is a return to the disaster flicks of the seventies. The towering Inferno and The Poseidon adventure spring to mind. This film resembles The Poseidon adventure most as it contains alot of water. Rent this out for entertainment value but don't expect it to change your life. ...

Advantages: Dont get bored, good emotional parts, good themes Disadvantages: Not expanded on enough, more detailed characterisation needed
Whilst watching the film I didnt get bored for a moment. Throughout one thing happens after another with speedy regularity. A road that runs through a tunnel in New York is packed with passengers in the evening rush home. The film starts with a few glimpses into the different characters lives, a teenage girl and her parents who is rude and difficult (like most teenagers!) a poor struggling actress, a bus full of convicts. Then as all these different ... ...to blow and the tunnel to block up making it impossible for anyone to get out. Sylvester Stallone stars as a disgraced paramedic who had apparently got a few people killed in the past whilst trying to save them. This time of course he is determined that he will save these people even if it means getting himself killed. I think the film could have expanded more on the different peoples lives especially Stallones character. It tends to concentrate ...

Advantages: Great action film with a serious edge to it, disc is superb quality and packed full of high quality extras Disadvantages: A perfect Bond disc, no faults!
'We have an old saying too - and you're full of it.'
Oooh, here we have a new Bond to replace Moore's departure after 'A View With A Kill', and a bloody tough, mean son of a gun he is too. 'The Living Daylights' marked a new Bond, and a new style of Bond films, returning to the old Connery rugged machismo style, and Timothy Dalton is like a breath of fresh air after Moore's geriatric last performance, relying on jokes because he was too old to do any stunts.
'The Living Daylights' is the 16th remastered Bond DVD to be released (though it is the 15th Bond film to be made, as TWINE was released first with Doctor No), and a personal favourite of mine. Not least because Dalton is an excellent serious Bond who made one good film, was forced to make the appalling totally-un-Bondmanlike 'Licence to Kill' and then left the series.

Advantages: Belter of an action movie Disadvantages: Disadvantages? In a Bond movie. Never!
's for only ?19.99 (BOGOF offer!) during the run-up to Christmas. I purchased four DVD's on this offer. Two of the recent releases starring Irish actor Pierce Brosnan, (the current Bond) and the two Bond adventures starring his immediate predecessor in the role, Welsh actor Timothy Dalton; "The Living Daylights" (1987) and "Licence To Kill" (1989).
~ ~ It's very hard to believe that Dalton only ever made two Bond movies. In fact, I was convinced he had actually made more until I checked it out on the Web. He had been mooted as a successor to the most successful (and still the best!) Bond actor to date, Sean Connery, but ongoing commitments at the time meant the role went instead to Roger Moore. (In my opinion, the worst actor ever to play Bond)
The Living Daylights was Dalton's debut in the role, and he was like a breath of fresh air for true ...
Advantages: Decent action and beautiful scenery Disadvantages: Confusing plot, some dull and dreary acting
, although I will say it is probably one of my least favourite Bond films. Another good soundtrack, with the title track this time being performed by A-Ha.
Conclusion
Not my favourite by a long shot.
