Edward Fox plays the Jackal a hitman hired by French terrorists to kill the President Charles De Gaulle, for pulling his troops out of Algeria.
The tension is beautifully built up as we watch the Jackal take all the necessary steps to carry out his plan to assassinate De Gaulle. It keeps all the suspense you would expect of a good Thriller as we follow the police as they try and attempt to prevent The Jackal from succeeding in his planned assassination. Alot of people, including myself, hav seen the updated version staring Bruce Willis .I much prefer the original version as I feel the Bruce Willis version (The Jackal)also starring Richard Gere,is not quite as believable as the Edward Fox original, especially when you consider how many times De Gaulle had assassination attempts on his life.
I personally have also enjoyed the Fredrick Forsyth's best selling Novel, also named The Day Of The Jackel, and The original film With Edward Fox portrays the book far more realistically, and follows the books story line much more then the Bruce Willis and Richard Gere version of the film called The Jackal.
This film is a superbly directed and produced film and Edward Fox plays the character of The Jackal extremely well giving the film amazing quality.
I would highly recommend it to everyone and it is a definite film the can be watched repeatedly.
