Dawn of the dead is an incredibly gory film. It keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times, is pretty interesting, and although like any typical zombie/horror film, it does keep you watching it.

Ana Clark (Sarah Polley) wakes up one morning after a heavy shift and fails to notice the news reports that the dead are attacking the living. She finds her neighbor, a young girl is in her bedroom, and seems to be disorientated and hurt. When Ana’s husband tries to investigate, the young girl attacks him, biting into his neck. Ana’s husband, bleeding badly drifts out of life, only to rise again a few minutes later. Her husband unfortunately has become one of them. A lifeless, careless, killing machine. And when she escapes from him, she is only to find that the rest of the country has fallen that way too. Once she escapes out of her house, she finds chaos, people screaming and houses on fire. After getting into her car to try to escape from the madness, she crashes, left with nothing to protect her. Overnight, the Zombie race has taken over, and anyone who happens to become infected they are brought back from the grave, driven to kill and eat human flesh.
After crashing her car, and running for her life, Ana meets up with Kenneth (Ving Rhames), a cop who is also trying to battle for his life amongst these beasts. Before long, they find other survivors, Michael (Jake Webber), Andrew (Mekhi Phifer) and Luda (Inna Korobkina) who is heavily pregnant. They head towards the mall, where they hope they will be safe from the dead.
They seal themselves up from the Zombies and try to put together a plan to get them out alive, or get rescued. The battle they have to fight is the battle to stay alive, and human.
One by one the survivors succumb to the deadly virus, after an attempt to get food to a fellow survivor on the roof of an adjacent building goes wrong. The zombies manage to get into the mall, wreaking havoc. The problem is, does each and every one of the survivors have the strength to kill their family, friends, or children to save their own lives when they become one of the zombies?
Dawn of the dead is an incredibly gory film. It keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times, is pretty interesting, and although like any typical zombie/horror film, it does keep you watching it.
The movie is pretty fast paced, and has the same name as George Romero’s first movie back in the 70’s. However there is little similarity between the two films, apart from the title, the shopping mall and the wonderful dead/alive creatures they like to call zombies.
One of the things that made this movie a little different from the everyday typical zombie movie was that the zombie’s can run. They don’t just stumble around...and get knocked out before they have even had chance to turn around, they actually run, and they seem to be pretty good at it too. This makes the film a whole lot scarier as the humans struggle to get away from the zombies that seem to appear out of no-where.
I defiantly loved this film, and would recommend it is worth paying for to watch. It is a superb remake.Extras:
Introduction by Zach Snyder: This is a short introduction from the director explaining a little bit about the directors cut, and what extra things are in place from the theatrical version.
Feature Commentary: This is a reasonably interesting commentary that talks through the film and gives us little bits of information on the differences between the theatrical version, the cuts and how they cast people.
The Lost Tape: Andy's Terrifying Last Days Revealed This is camcorder footage of Andy (the guy from the gun shop who was trapped without food). This is presented as a diary of his experience on his own. You do not get too see any zombies; it is just Andy telling us what is happening over a period of days.
Special Report: We Interrupt this Programme As a news report, this shows how quickly the virus is spreading, and we get to spend time with some of the crews covering the stories.
Deleted Scenes with Optional Directors Commentary Some deleted scenes. It is a good idea to watch these with the commentary on.
Raising of the dead Speaking to the make-up man, David Leroy Anderson. He explains how they did the zombie make-up and he explains how they built up the different stages.
Attack of the Living Dead A short commentary which concentrates on 6 of the zombies and how they were made up.
Splitting Headache: Anatomy of Exploding Heads How they created the headshots.
...lets take a step back. Dawn of the Dead is a remake of the George Romero movie of the same name and indeed George is marked down with joint writing credits along with James Gunn, who wrote or had a hand in writing the screenplay for… erm both Scooby Doo movies and a rather dodgy movie (if the trailers are anything to go by) called Slither. However (from what I read as I have not seen the original Dawn of the Dead) there is not much similarity between ... ...that I did like about Dawn of the Dead was that of the fast Zombie. There is none of this lumbering around rubbish where humans can pick them off as they please, these Zombies lay down some speed and I found it makes for a whole more scary film as the humans can't seem to get away from the endless hordes of Zombies that appear. This was the first film that I had seen that took this approach, although I accept it may not have been the first film that ...

Advantages: Good acting, script and direction Disadvantages: Turns a little cheesey
...lot of bad things about Dawn of the Dead (a remake of, er, Dawn Of the Dead), so I was expecting to hate this film. I was, however, surprised. The main criticism that I'd heard was that the zombies are quick in the remake. How can a zombie be quick? If they're dead, would they not be shambling, uncoordinated creatures? I decided to put this prejudice to one side for the sake of this movie, and accept that zombies can run and jump like the rest of ... ...light-hearted and funny moments in Dawn of the Dead. For example, the team stalk nervously through the shopping mall on a zombie hunt, while in the background is a keyboard instrumental version of Don't Worry, Be Happy. This gag is repeated later on when CJ makes it into a lift after a pretty close shave, there's some relaxing muzak playing.
The lighter moments, like those above, help to pace the film and stop the viewer becoming desensitised to ...

Advantages: Very good Remake of Original, If you liked Original yo uwill like this, good cast Disadvantages: Not much Gore, Not to many jumpy bits..
Most people liked the original and if you missed the original then you will not be disappointed with this version. I will make this very clear before i continue my review... I love Horrors, I will usually say horrors are very good, it takes one that is really really bad for me to go thats cr*p! So if you are a lover of horrors my review will suit you to a T. If you are not a lover of Horrors then i will say this. This is a top film, the acting is ... ...good. There is plenty going on through the film to keep you occupied and there are not to many parts that you have to turn away from or make you so scared the lights stay on for a fortnight or you have to fix your arm chair due to piercing the arms with your fingers!
The characters in this movie are played out very well a special shout out to Ving Rhames and Sarah Polly.. Outstanding...
Right now i can get right into the movie.
The whole movie ...

Advantages: Lots of blood and violence, very quick into action Disadvantages: Yet another zombie film
...However Zack Snyder's cut of Dawn of the Dead climbs to possibly the best undead killing movie made so far.
The DVD itself includes some good extra features, including a programme which explains just how the sequences of exploding zombie heads are created. It also has the usual DVD extras such as audio commentaries.
Overall this movie combines an origional enough story with gruesome ideas which should be a worthwhile purchase for horror movie fans. ...

Advantages: Ving Rhames is on top form as usual. The zombies are faster and scarier than in previous Living Dead films. Disadvantages: Some computer generated scenes look a little out-of-place and shabby.
This remake of the original Dawn Of The Dead sees a lot of changes, though the main plot remains basically the same.
The story begins with Anna, a nurse, returning home after an extended shift at work. Waking up in the morning with her husband beside her, a young girl neighbour enters their bedroom, and she is infected! Seeing her hideously wounded face, Anna's husband goes to help the girl, but is attacked and killed. Then he becomes a zombie, ... ...and driving away as fast as she can. The scenes she sees around her are of absolute chaos. Explosions, murders, zombies chasing after survivors. Then Anna crashes. Waking up, she is confronted by Ken, (Ving Rhames), a police officer armed with a shotgun. Together, they set off to find shelter. They soon find more survivors, a black man and his pregnant Russian girlfriend, and a TV salesman. Knowing that they must find a place of sanctuary, they head ...

which is in the first one. But also a child previously taken out because they shot the child in the head, Taken out because of the sheer shock of it I presume.
The Zombies in this movie are far better than in Night of the living dead and at times are rather amusing. Make-up and special effects for the year it was made are really quite good. George A. Romero's dawn of the dead is a must for any horror fan.

Dawn of the Dead could never be described as the best horror film of all time. It may well be the best zombie movie – but then the competition isn’t great. Horror fans will surely want to see this, just to find out what all the fuss was about, but I was rather disappointed. Certainly not suitable for pre-dinner viewing…. ...
