I am a big David Kirsch fan and own three of his DVDs. Initially I bought the Ultimate New York Body Plan and his Ultimate Bootcamp and both of these were extremely advanced weight training/cardio workouts that had me aching the next day.
I decided to buy Kirsch's Upper Body DVD as I assumed that this would be as advanced. I was wrong. This workout is much more for someone new to exercise and, one of its advantages is how much detail Kitsch goes into with each move. HOWEVER, the moves are not repeated very much and, unless you were quite unfit, you fail to get a very intense workout at all.
The DVD is divided into three 15 min sections-Upper body (arms, back, shoulders etc), Abs and chest and then a more advanced 15 min section with all upper body and abs.
I have a few main complaints regarding this DVD. The first is just how annoying Kirsch is. Although Kirschs mantras and American positivity can be annoying in all of his workouts it is extremely highlighted in this one. I think this is because the workout is not particularly challenging and therefore you have more time/energy to focus on his words!! The music is also awful. It is the same music as is used to Ultimate Bootcamp and is totally non motivational and does not correspond to the workout.
Saying this, if you are new to lifting weights and want a workout that will ease you into this I would recommend this DVD. I tend to use it when I'm tired/hungover and want to feel that I have done something. It has also been helpful to checking my form. If you are an intermediate/advanced user though I would swerve this and go for the amazing Bootcamp or New York Body plan.
For this workout you will need dumbells of between 2lbs and 5lbs.
