on the album. Originally the Rats from Hull, Mick Ronson (Ronno) guitar and piano, Trevor Bolder on bass and Mick (Woody )Woodmansy on drums were lured into the project to become the regular backing players for the next few years. The last too members being the Weird and Gilly mentioned on the title song. After being given a make over and a new name, The SpidersFromMars were complete. Bowie was always at pains to stress that even though other musicians were used on the tour, the Spiders began and ended with these three musicians, they were the mythical creation that Bowie needed to reflect his music, a theatrical creation that completed the overall effect.
The album is the story of a musician, his re-invention and media manipulation, the precursor of the real life story of so many bands from teh sex pistols to almost every pop band to day. It ...
Advantages: An amazing album full of quirky ideas and lots of neat sounds Disadvantages: It is a little dated in places but this isn't too deterring
Not all parents have a crap taste in music; over the years, my folks have introduced me to the likes of Crowded House, Savage Garden and ? my personal favourite ? The Beatles. That is until I came across ?Ziggy Stardust and the SpidersFromMars? in the CD cupboard; with Bowie?s rather dashing turquoise cat suit and off-ginger mullet, I was rather intrigued by the album?s artwork...perhaps it was the thrill of seeing somebody standing ...
Advantages: Truly inspirational, awe inspiring production of music Disadvantages: none
As a long standing Bowie fan, i recently purchased this album to replace the origianl that somehow went astray - its bizarre how you mange to loose so many CD's - or is it just me?!?!
When the album Ziggy Stardust & The SpidersFromMars was first introduced, it presented to the world a unique pre-packaged personality. For me it also defined the glitter rock movement of the early seventies (would love to be able to go back and experience that first hand).
The album & Ziggy Stardust personna really did take rock theatrics to new eights. My favourite song on the album has to be "suffragette city", the most ferocious track on the album with high guitar rock aggression.
Playing the guitar myself I found this album to be inspirational for song writing allowing me to explore song writing down new avenues. I'd recommend any young up ...
