of them all Hollywood's big-budget special effects-laden blockbuster franchise films. The story centers on four not-so-young orphans: one reared by a curator at the Louvre (where an albino assassin lurks); another a refugee from Mexican "libre" wrestling; the third a recent victim of snakes on her plane; and the fourth a "normal" resident of a mutant "X"-community. The hapless quartet visits a chocolate factory where they stumble into an enchanted wardrobe that transports them to the land of Gnarnia (with a silent "G"). There they meet a flamboyant pirate captain and earnest students of wizardry - and join forces with among others a wise-but-horny lion to defeat the evil White Bitch of Gnarnia. Every once in a while you come across a movie that is so devoid of merit that you actually want to come face to face with the makers of it and slap some sense into them. Not only that but you then have to garner the enthusiasm and spirit required to write an opinion on it rather than removing every single frame of it from your mind forever more.
Date Movie is the latest film on an ongoing list that I beg you never to even mention again. If you haven't seen it then don't, if anyone you know mentions it and liked it then you must never speak to them again. It really is that bad.
The movie is a 'spoof' of other films from two of the writers involved in the Scary Movie series. Buffy's Alyson Hannigan plays Julia Jones, an overweight Bridget Jones type who wants to find her prince charming. Naturally she finds him after a bit of an overhaul in a 'Pimp My Ride' sequence that is just one of the deeply depressing skits on show in this crap. What ensues over the next hour is a bunch of scenes that riff on other movies, that don't spoof them. Instead all they do is pretty much re-enact them and try and add a little more gross out humour. I suppose the intention of the movie was to spoof other romantic comedies. Instead all this does is throw in a bunch of stuff from recent movies. It borrows heavily from Meet The Parents and it's sequel, both films that weren't romantic comedies and films that were far funnier than this will ever be. One moment sees a toilet-trained cat used in a predictable piece of toilet humour that goes on for what feels like an eternity. Another scene starts off with a riff on When Harry Met Sally yet it has no substance and the punchline comes after about give minutes and just dire.
I really felt sorry for Alyson Hannigan as she shouldn't be wasting her time in complete garbage such as this. The only good thing I can say about the film is that she at least makes her character a little likeable. But you know you've got real problems when you throw in gifted comedic actors such as Fred Willard and Jennifer Coolidge and neither can get a single laugh out of the material.
The movie is sloppily directed and shows no effort in trying to entertain the audience. It's lazy filmmaking by people who can't come up with an original concept and can't even grasp the concept of spoof. I don't know if you can even call it a movie as without credits this whole thing barely lasts over an hour.
The sad thing is that this film made money and a glance at IMDB shows that the maker's already have another movie on the way, I've no doubt that it will be the same uninspired dross as this so we can only hope that people have got wise and it bombs.
- The DVD -
Dull and uninspired visuals get crisply transferred in this widescreen presentation, it's looks ok, better than VHS but I would have preferred if the screen remained pitch black throughout. Audio wise it's 5.1 Dolby Digital with not much going on, one for the TV speakers only and let's face it, you'd only be wasting electricity by turning on your amp.
- Extras-
Who on earth would want to sit through an audio commentary from the makers? Well Fox seems to think you may and serve an audio track with writer and director. At least they seem to think they've made something funny but no one told them they couldn't mention the movies they were spoofing hence constant bleeps in the track.
Another track features cast members, personally if I'd appeared in this film and then seen the final result I'd not want to be involved with anything spawned from it.
But let it be said there is one redeeming feature on this disc and it isn't the movie. The third track is billed as an anti-commentary and features two film critics who talk about the movie and everything that's wrong with it. Everything they say is right on the money and I agreed with everything they said.
Aside from that you get a featurette on first dates that amounts to nothing more than press interviews.
A screensaver extra that is incredibly pointless and not even worth mentioning.
The deleted scenes section extends some of the scenes in the movie and therefore some of the jokes, needless to say 70-minutes of Date Movie is enough and we don't really need to subject ourselves to anymore agony.
I couldn't see anything else on this rental disc, quite frankly I didn't want to take the time to find out.

...the movie. However today's movie Date Movie I find impossible to balance; and I'd go so far as to say I'd rather be castrated than have to endure even one second of this drivel ever again.
Date Movie is another in a long line of send up movies spoofing some of the most popular movies around. However in my opinion in order for a send up movie to be any good it needs to have either of the following attached to it The Zucker Brothers (Naked Gun, Airplane) ... ...are used in short skits. Date Movie borrows heavily from four movies and in fact nearly the entire first half of the movie is an amalgam of Meet The Parents and Meet The Fockers; both these movies were already comedies and by most peoples views funny enough, so to spoof them is really taking things to far.
Talking of taking things too far, each joke if you can call it a joke is stretched out beyond the realms of humour. Two examples of this involve ...

Advantages: SOme very funny and memorable scenes, great characters Disadvantages: It will appeal to thise with a specific sense of humour so limited audience
Date Movie was written by Jason Friedberg and Aaron seltzer (who was also the director) and was released in February 2006.
It is a film belonging to the teen movie genre but it was made and released a long time after this genre was at its peak. This, in my opinion, is why Date Movie was never really that popular. Everything had been done before, and it was not really original but it is still a really funny and light hearted film.

Advantages: A few funny moments Disadvantages: The majority is rubbish
I haven't a clue what it was trhat made me start watching this, or what it was that actually kept me watching until the end, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected it to be. That having been said, it's still a bit rubbish, and as far as spoof films go, which is not saying much, it's of a low standard.

The plot basically takes bits from various romcoms such as Bridget Jones, Hitch, The Wedding Crashers, When Harry Met Sally and many others, with some horrible moments, some that really come close to overstepping the mark, and some that, quite surprisingly, made me laugh out loud.
Hannigan seems out of her comfort zone, despite her American Pie pedigree, with leading man Adam Campbell ...

== Date Movie ==
Date Movie is a comedy film similar to Epic Movie and Scary Movie because they all make fun of other films. There are lots of films that Date Movie skits so I will name some of them in brackets.
Date Movie is about an obese woman named Julia Jones (Bridget Jones' Diary) who wants to find the man of her dreams but her father disagrees and wants her to marry a Greek-Indian-Japanese-Jew instead. So Julia goes to Hitch and tells him ... ...contest and goes on the date of a lifetime to A Restaurant with the bachelor, Grant Fockyerdoder (Meet the Fockers). They hit it off, and the very next day Grant goes to meet the parents and then he proposes. Julia accepts, but before they start planning the big day her parents have to meet Grant's family. Grant's parents are delighted, but Julia's dad remains stubborn and wants her to marry a Greek-Indian-Japanese-Jew. They go to see a wedding planner ...

Advantages: Hilarious Disadvantages: only if you don't like comedy
- The plot - Similar to 'Not Another Teen Movie', and 'Scary Movie 1, 2 + 3' 'Date movie' pulls in parts from all those romantic comedies to make a fantastic and uncomparable film.
Julia Jones, works in her family cafeteria serving coffee, sad, alone and depressed. Wanting to find her prince charming, whilst her parents want her to marry someone of thier chioce. Providing a almost unfillable category for this man, Julia becomes even more depressed.
... ...dreams - Grant Funkyerdoder - in the cafeteria. Though when she looks back for him she believes he's left.
She then inlists the help of Hitch, hoping that he will be able to help her get her true love. After 'pimping her' out, she's finally ready to fight for Grant.
From meeting Julia's parents, to putting up with Julia's nosey neighbour - who loves cats... Grant is put through a seeming hell, but one not worth missing out of.
The end of the story? ...

Advantages: 2 films in 1 Disadvantages: The films themselves are just plain terrible
.
DateMovie on the other hand, tried only to make fun of the genre of romance, rather than hundreds of individual films, which allowed it to develop more of an actual storyline. Which although still not great, was at least bearable!
The story is about an overweight girl working in her fathers greek restaurant, and although she meets the man of her dreams (nicely named Grant Fockyerdoder) they must get through meeting eachothers parents and friends before having their big fat greek wedding!
The story is simple, and predicatable.
Alision Hannigan was the only memorable character as Julia Jones, Her performance however, I was not impressed with. This sort of role did not seem to suit her at all, and she, although memorable, was not believable.
I think this film by itself was marketed wrong. Being linked to all the "great spoof films ...

This movie brings something new to watch from my whole dvd library. It is a great movie and I watched it with a pleasure but unfortunatetly it has a very familiar story to 28 days later, weeks later, doomsday and so on. I just wonder how many more movies with almost the same plot we will see in a nearest future. Nevertheless I do reccomend this movie for a good action, special effects, Will Smith's acting and all other small bits this movie has shown us.

Advantages: provides the link between all episodes Disadvantages: none
Excellent film, provides the link between all the films as to how Anekin Skywalker becomes Darth Varder.
Excellent special effects and story line with the good against evil and Anakens struggle between the two.
Also we can now understand Star Wars episode 4,5 and six much better with the complete story of where it all started and how OB wan went into hiding to protect LukeSkywalker.
George Lucas should be commended once again for his skills and the vision of what star wars can and will be and this along with the original 3 movies will stand the test of time and will not date.
Cover ofthe DVD was also well designed and eye catching and relative to the film, eye catching and easy to see that it was a Star Wars episode. ...
