I enjoyed this film when I went to see it at the cinema earlier this year but it didn’t do as well as other superhero films did at the American box office, it only made $102m and other films like Spiderman made $403m and X men 2 has made $215m so far. This doesn’t mean it’s a bad film, it only means there properly wont be a sequel. In my view this film was great and lived up to my expectations because of its great acting and plot, I cant compare it to the comic book because I have never read any of them but from what I have herd it has kept in line with the comic story.
Dir: Mark Steven Johnson Cast: Ben affleck (Gigli, the sum of all fears, Pearl Harbor) Jennifer Garner (alias, catch me if you can) Colin Farrell (S.W.A.T. phone booth, the recruit, minority report) Michael Clarke Duncan (planet of the apes, the green mile) Run time: 1hr 40 min Cert: 15
The film:
The film starts with the story
of Matt Murdocks (daredevil) father who was a great boxer when Matt was not born but now is a drunken man who just watches TV all day and then tells the story of how Matt became blind in a chemical accident.
After coming to terms with his blindness they make a promise to each other to work together and for his father to get back training and become a top class boxer again and for his son to live as normal life as he can with his disability which they do and his dad becomes a great boxer again but the good life is short-lived for Matt went he is discovers his father being beat up and eventually murdered in a side street of a boxing arena, after refusing to take a fall in a corrupt match that someone wanted him to lose in so Matt’s dad is murdered for it.
The film then goes to when matt is older and has become a lawyer in the day and crime fighting superhero ‘daredevil’ at night. After losing on of his cases to convict a rapist he takes the law in to his own hands and follows the man to a bar and there then follows a brilliant bar brawl with great stunts, the man is given a dose of street justice and is killed by a train.
He meets a girl in a café (Jennifer garner/ Elektra) and forms a strong relationship with her as lawyer but soon she becomes to hate daredevil because see thinks that daredevil is responsible for her fathers death but it was bullseye (Colin Farrell) who killed him with daredevils weapon. Daredevil and Elektra then have a fight where she nearly kills daredevil but stop when she finds out his true identity but then bullseye comes back to kill them but daredevil has to go and recover from his injuries in a church but bullseye follows him and they have a fight with great special effects because it s in the church and you see them fight on the massive tubes of the organ and there is another scene where bullseye throws loads of glass at daredevil which he evades by performing some Olympic standard gymnastics. Daredevil wins in the end after bullseye is shot by a sniper and daredevil throws him from the top of the church on to the street.
During the film daredevil finds out that all the crime in the part of the city he calls ‘hells kitchen’ were he lives is run by a man called the kingpin (Michael Clarke Duncan) who has all the power in the crime world and the money to match it. He finds out near the end of the film that kingpin was responsible for his father’s death so daredevil goes to find justice and has a fight with kingpin that has a surprising ending.
This film is more adult than Spiderman and so has stronger fight scenes that some children might find scary so watch this alone first before letting your children watch. The 2 disk DVD this film comes in is brilliant and the film makers have really put a lot of effort into this DVD and makes the film better and really worth buying.
DVD Extras:
Disk 1: Audio commentary by director Mark Steven Johnson Pop up text commentary with notes that relate to the making of the film
Disk 2 extras: The extras on disk two are split up into two parts ‘the film’ and ‘the comic book’
The Film: Beyond hells kitchen making of documentary (59 mins) Jennifer garner screen test Multi angle sequences HBO special (25 min) Moving through space: a day with tom Sullivan (8 min) Trailers Stills gallery Music videos: Evanescence- bring me to life The calling- for you Fuel- won’t back down

I have not had time to look at all the extras but the beyond hells kitchen doc is brilliant and really gives you a great look into how the film was made.
Overall this film is worth buying if you are a fan of other films like Spiderman and if not you should still rent it.

I didn't notice this film til it's release on DVD. Jennifer Garner in Catch Me If You Can, I missed her in that and I watched that after this...she was the "go fish" woman probably. I wish I could see what was going on in that dark club scene early in the film.

This had potential, but for me was spoilt by Colin Farrels performance!

Advantages: Good action, Jennifer Garner in tight leather, cool soundtrack Disadvantages: Jennifer Garner trying to act, Affleck's chin, some of the acting is a little bit cheesy!
