Daredevil/Matt Murdock-Ben Affleck (Pearl Harbour) Elektra-Jennifer Garner (Alias) Bullseye-Collin Farrell (Phone Booth) The King Pin- Michael Clark Duncan (The Scorpion King)
Plot Matt Murdock is an up and coming lawyer, who by night sees that justice is done in another way. He becomes the red costumed hero known as DareDevil, the man without fear. What's amazing and different about this hero is not his abilities, but more his disabilities. When Matt Murdock was younger, an accident with a truck spilling chemicals into his eyes left him blind, but he found instead that his other abilities had been enhanced. Matt has not let his abilities stop him from being a great lawyer and a super hero. He also hasn’t let it interfere with his love life. During the film he encounters the beautiful Elektra. They start more as rivals than lovers, testing each others abilities to the limit. Elektra’s anger comes from her need for vengeance- at DareDevil. She thinks that DareDevil
was responsible for her father’s death (kind of like Harry Osbourne believed Spiderman was responsible for his father’s death, who was really the Green Goblin). In reality, DareDevil was framed by the assassin Bullseye, nicknamed because of his bullseye accuracy that would put the world champion darts players to shame. Bullseye was hired by The King Pin, a powerful crime lord and ex-wrestler. The King Pin does not like DareDevil’s efforts to clean up the streets either as DareDevil or Murdock the lawyer.
The fight scenes in this movie were great, especially the scene next to the bench and on the roof top, both involving Affleck and Garner. You would never believe that some one who is supposed to play a blind character could move so well. It is a lot darker than Spiderman and is for a slightly older audience. Daredevil and Spiderman are very similar in some ways they both were created by accidents when they were younger, they both do most of their fighting in the dark streets and the roof tops, they both live in New York, and they both have common enemies- The King Pin. I was surprised the King Pin was in this, because I have always thought of him as a Spiderman bad guy. I also didn’t know that The King Pin was black, and so was surprised to see Duncan in this role. He was very good in The Scorpion King as Balthazar, which is the only other role I’ve seen him in, as with Garner who I’ve only seen in Alias- as series about a female secret agent. Of course everyone knows who Ben Affleck is, not just because of his acting but because of his girlfriend. Colin Farrell’s career seems to have taken off this year. I think he’s been in at least 5 films including this and Phone Booth this year (which I suspect was a lot cheaper to make than DareDevil due to the fact that it was filmed nearly entirely in a phone booth).
Only 1 of the characters in this film was actually a mutant, the other just appeared to have their abilities without the problem of a lab accident like most heroes and villans are made. Bullseye had some of the best abilities. He managed to turn Elektra's own weapons on herself, after she thought she'd killed DareDevil.
I would think DareDevil is less popular than Spiderman, I mean I didn't know who DareDevil was until I saw him in a TVM of The Incredible Hulk. By then I already knew who Spiderman, the X-men and the Hulk were. Since they were cashing in on modern day big screen adventures for a lot of comic book heroes, it made sense to make one about him, and I think it paid off. Casting Affleck was a stroke of guineness, because even if the film was bad, women would still go just to see him.
On the sound track is the song Bring Me To Life by Evanescence, which was featured in the scenes before the fight between Elektra and Daredevil.
If you liked Spiderman and Marvel superheroes in general you should watch this, just to see what life is like on the other side of the City, and the chance to see a different kind of hero.
Something I forgot to mention before was how short this film was. Overall not much happened, when compared with Spiderman. What's mad is that loads of people figured out who he was, even the King Pin.

I didn`t think I was going to like this movie, but I did. It was pure fantasy and quite silly, but rather enjoyable too.

Great review - it doesn't encourage me to go and see the film, but it's always useful to know that something definitely wouldn't appeal!
