Nowadays, more and more comics are released in Cinema. After X-men and Spiderman, and soon X-men 2, it’s Daredevil which appears on our screens. Daredevil is a comics created by Stan Lee. Such a film was risky because Spiderman hadn’t a real success and, thus, this one could disinterest a lot of people. Ben Affleck, on purpose to attract a huger public, plays the main character. Was that a good Idea ? We are going to see that later. Daredevil had to be better than the others comics adaptations and I think that the advertising were very important for that. But we couldn’t know if the film is real pleased for a few weeks.
Matt Murdock has a difficult life. His father is a former boxer professional, whereas his «comrades» lynch him, 12-year-old kid. But his father, for whom he has an admiration without limits, forbid him to fight, because, because he doesn’t want his son becomes like him. He wants that Matt become later an important man, a lawyer for example. But a night, coming back from school, Matt witnesses an aggression in the street : his own father is stealing a man. Chocked, he runs as speed as he can and a elevator, wanting to avoid him, transpierces a barrel full of chemicals. Matt became Blind…
He
lost the sight, but his hearing and all his senses were improved. Each noise enables him to visualise the scene. He learnt to fight, alone, on the roofs on the buildings, and he became real stronger. For him, his father refused to lose a boxing match in order not to deceive his son. But he was murdered for that and Matt swore to revenge himself… 10 years later, he’s become a good lawyer, as his father told him, and, when the night is fell, he endorses his red “suit” and becomes Daredevil, a superhero who defends the widow and the orphan, but Kingpin, the head of the criminality, is ready to do what he’ll be necessary to eliminate him…
Honestly, the plot is almost the same as the others comics plots. Actually, the story isn’t really developed. Whether this film was the first of the category, it wouldn’t be so serious, but here, it’s at least the third and the plot had to be good, not complicated, but complete, and this one isn’t. But we have nevertheless the ingredients of the original comics. The atmosphere is recreated, even if this one isn’t as dark, as gloom, as comic’s atmosphere. The story is interesting, but the bounces are foreseeable and worst, aren’t new ! It won’t be amazing to see a character lose his father and believe that the murder is the hero, like in Spiderman. And it’s only an example because there are many scenes, which look like to others film’s extracts.
Some people think that this film is the first of a long series, but even if it was that, this film would have to be more complete and I hope that this others films will be better than this one. Actually, Daredevil misses originality. The story isn’t exactly like Spideman’s or X-men’s, but we can find too much common points and I think that’s very sad.
The director is Mark Steven Johnson and he made a good work. The film’s plot isn’t very good but the realisation is classical like the comics. Each catch of sight seems to be the same as the comic’s framings. Special effects are very good too : The great buildings are wonderful and the fights very impressing. Moreover, the characters costumes are very beautiful like Daredevil’s, as red as the fire… But some scenes are exaggerated like the character’s jumps witch are often too big for human jumps and they don’t tell us that Daredevil became very stronger too !
Concerning the main characters, we have to talk about Daredevil, of course. The man was very traumatised when he was a child, and he hates kill people, but for him, it’s the only means to make respect justice. He thinks that a criminal man will never change and the only way to prevent him to harm is to kill him. His constancy wills to make the “good” is not credible and thus, people can’t really identify themselves to him, that’s sad too. His girlfriend, Elektra is opposed to him. She’s very instinctive and she doesn’t reflect before acting. Bullseyes, the killer, is the most mysterious character. We don’t know his story, his life. He kills for the pleasure, even his allied, and he’s moreover very clever !
All this characters are played respectively by Ben Affleck, the best actor of the casting, Jennifer Garner, who’s a very beautiful woman who played in Pearl Harbour like Ben Affleck. It’s Colin Farell who interprets Bullseye but actually, his role isn’t very difficult because he don’t speak very much !
To conclude, Daredevil isn’t a very good film : it fell originality and the plot is very weak. The actors are good, but theirs characters aren’t developed enough. The only very good thing is the music, with Nickelback, The Calling and overall evanescence, a very good group. People who were fans of comics will perhaps like this film but the others risk to be bored by this new comic’s adaptation !
