Daredevil
Director: Mark Steven Johnson Release Date: 2003 Runtime: 133 mins Approx Certificate: 15
Disk 1: Main Feature.
As the film starts, we see our hero, Daredevil aka, Matt Murdock (Ben Affleck), who is clutching onto a cross at the top of a church. He falls down into the church and is found by the priest. We then hear a voice over by Affleck, who says something about when you die your life flashes before you eyes, and the film then goes back to the very beggining, where we see how he gets into this situation.
We see a young Matt (Scott Terra), looking down at the ground, with a cut on his lip. We then see that the cause of this was a group of bullies who were teasing him about his father who was a ex-boxer. When he got home, he told his father what had happened, to which he replied that he should never stay and fight, because he wants him to do something good with his life. He tells his dad that he has heard he is working as hired muscle for a local gangster, Wilson Fisk (Michael Clarke
Duncan). To which his father promises is not true.
One day Matt goes to his father work place at the dock, and asks a worker where he his dad his, but is told he hasn't worked their for months. He is on his way out of the docks when he hears shouting and goes to check it out, Where he see's his dad beating up a stranger, he runs away due to being upset, and almost runs into a forkilift, but the driver swerves out of the way at the very last second, and and cuts open a barrel full of radioactive biohazard chemicals, which spill into Matts eyes causing him blindness.
He wakes up in hospital to a loud noise, which we see is due to him having a extroadinary sense of hearing, and the thing he can hear is water dripping. He then starts seeing people walking around and cars driving about, and unable to control it he is initally frightened.
He starts training his newly improved senses, by tapping on things with a walking stick, and being able to see the sounds which makes him no what it is. He starts doing all kinds of stunts and physical training.
His father returns to proffesional boxing, after giving is son the advice of never quitting anything. But is later killed by some henchmen, who only leave a single rose on his body as a calling card. His father was killed for not throwing a fight.
We then see Murdock years later, and he is now a professional lawyer, choosing his clients from listening to their heart beats to see if they are telling the truth or not. And when other people get off with the crimes they have commited, Murdock dons his Daredevil costume, and sets out to bring them to justice using his own methods.
He meets a woman called Elektra one day, and instantly falls in love with her, although he can't tell her about his secret identity. Someone known only has the Kingpin, hires a hitman named Bullseye (Colin Farell), to kill Elektras father, because he no longer wants to be in the crime business.
He is killed by Daredevils weapon, after Bullseye steals it from him and she sets out on a path of revenge to kill Daredevil, and make him pay for her fathers death. But after stabbing him she realises who he is and that it wasn't him that was the killer, and we see a big fight between her and Bullseye, resulting in the beggining of the film once again being shown, and the rest of the movie playing out from there.
Special Features.
# Commentary by Writer/Director Mark Steven Johnson. - This as it says on the tin, is simply Johnson describing scenes in the film, and discussing what happened in the production of the movie.
# Giving The Devil His Due - This is basically a Making of the Directors Cut, with them explaining what was added and taken out of this version of the movie, and why it wasn't the version shown in the cinemas.
My Opinion.
After watching this movie for the first time today, I was genuinly shocked by how much I liked it. I've had many chances before to watch it, but it's not been one of those things that really interest me. This may be because before today, I didn't really like Ben Affleck, and thought at most he was a mediocre actor. But this movie changed my whole opinion on that matter.
Affleck shows excellent acting talent in this movie, and plays Murdock / Daredevil perfectly. Michael Clark Duncan is also very good in his role as the Kingpin, and shows how he can make you feel for his character in one film, The Green Mile, but then despise him in this one. Which I', guessing isn't a very easy thing to do. Collin Farell and Jeniffer Garner respectively each had their own touch to the movie, and add extra to the storyline.
I enjoyed this film much more than I did Spider-man 3, even tho I am a huge fan of the Spider-man movies.
Stan Lee once again has a cameo in this Marvel movie, playing an old man who is about to walk in front of a moving vehicle because he isn't looking where he is going, until the young Murdock, puts his walking stick out in front of him to stop him.
The movie also has a very good sountrack, which fits perfectly with the feel of the movie, although I am not a fan of the bands who performed the tracks, these include Evenescance and Hoobastank.
Overall at the cheap price you can get this movie for (around £5.). It's definetly worth a watch, and I only wish I'd watched it sooner and put a little faith in Affleck.
4 out of 5 stars.

Hiya, this isn't a bad review at all but I only rated helpful 'cos there's far too much plot revealed here. You haven't checked your spelling either! Elle x
